Tres Jolie Kit Club–Cottage Life Cards–July 2022 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, y’all! We’ve made it to the end of July, and are that much closer to the end of this oppressive summer heat! (I hope!!)

For my last project using the July 2022 Cards, Tags, & More Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club, I used up the bits and pieces of the Graphic 45 “Cottage Life” papers I had, along with some cardstock, dies, and mediums from my stash, to create some cards & envelopes.

G45cards-jul22ctm-11

To get all the details of what I did for these cards, check out my video!

Video:

All of the cards are rather straightforward. I used my last two uncut sheets of the “Cottage Life” paper to make two envelopes for 3-1/2”x6” cards – the largest size envelope that can be made using an 8”x8” sheet on the We R Memory Keepers Envelope Punch Board – and used two pre-made envelopes and card blanks for the other two cards.

This first card is made with some metallic cardstock from DCWV and decorated using the TCW stencil from June’s Mixed Media Kit, texture paste from my stash, and embossing powder. I sprinkled the embossing powder on the texture paste while it was still wet, and waited until it dried before heating it up. Although you can heat dry texture paste on its own, because you can keep the heat farther away and in constant motion, it doesn’t work as well when the paste is topped with embossing powder! The heat needed for embossing powder – or rather the heating method – can, and generally will cause the wet texture paste to form bubbles.

G45cards-jul22ctm-05 G45cards-jul22ctm-06

After my embossing powder was heated and cooled, I sprinkled on some of Lindy’s “Bavarian Blue” Magical Powder that is in this month’s Mixed Media Kit, gave it a spray of water, and let it spread out between the stenciling! I had the framed phrase that I made when I was working on the “Cottage Life” décor piece (the project posted on the 21st), so I added it to my card front and stamped a simple sentiment on a strip of cardstock to finish out my card front.

For the envelope, I used a Vicki Boutin stamp and die set from my stash to create the little windows. Before I folded the envelope up, I used the rose die to make the windows in the envelope and glued in some faux glassine that I had stamped and embossed with the coordinating rose stamp.

G45cards-jul22ctm-01

I didn’t do anything to the envelope for this card except fold it! Honestly, I just couldn’t think of anything I wanted to have premade, and decided to wait until the time came to use it!

For the card, all I did was cut a couple of the wider strips of the patterned paper to the length I needed and a strip of cardstock to the length and width I needed for the top section with the sentiment. Before I added the cardstock with the sentiment, I added some “Mowed Lawn” Distress Oxide Spray to the patterned paper. I didn’t intend to add so much, sometimes my hands have a mind of their own! Anyhow, I just wet it and mopped it up a bit. It was already there, so I just worked with what I had!

After I stamped my sentiment, I decided I wanted to have it stand out more, so I traced it all with a metallic pen, then I added my mini pearls, and this card was done.

The next two cards were made using some card and envelope blanks by Recollections from my stash.

G45cards-jul22ctm-08 G45cards-jul22ctm-07

For this card, I grabbed my 1.5” hexagon punch, a set of hexagon dies, and my bird silhouette dies. I didn’t want to cover the whole front of the card with hexagons, so I just randomly placed them in a way that I thought looked good and added my birds. To make the birds stand out, I hand drew a line for them to stand one, outlined them in coordinating metallic pens, and then used a dark grey pen for their shadows – just smearing out it with my finger. I stamped the sentiment on a little piece of my homemade glassine and added it to the card front. Super quick and easy card!

For the envelope, I place my hexagon dies inside the envelope so I could cut out some windows, added my birds, and then backed them with some of my homemade glassine.

G45cards-jul22ctm-09 G45cards-jul22ctm-10

For the fourth and final card, I just filled up the card front with blocks of the patterned paper and added a few flowers tucked under the chipboard piece. Very quick and easy card front – especially with the use of a pre-made card base!

The envelope wasn’t as quick and easy! When I first started playing with the faux glassine technique I learned from Nik the Booksmith, I had used this cute little stamp from my stash to stamp on a piece of tracing paper, then used some colored pencils to fill it in before spraying it with the glossy spray and turning it into a [faux] glassine print! Since I had already cut it in half (I had been thinking of doing something else with it originally) I decided that I needed to create a window pane for my envelope.

For the cute little scene “outside” the window, I wrapped some blue-ish faux glassine (created previously using the wax method) around the white side of a piece of the cover from the Graphic 45 stack and placed it behind my showering squirrels! I also have some foliage bits along the bottom that I was able to cut from some of the green print. Not a lot, because my die was bigger than the piece of paper I had to work with, but there is some there!

After I cut out four rectangles from my envelope to create the window opening and gluing in my squirrels, I added in strips of the patterned paper to help bring it to life … and also possibly because my craft knife got away from me and I accidentally cut across one of the cross pieces so I had to find a way to put my window back together! Rolling on the floor laughing Well, that led me to then having to make sure my edges were all evenly sized so I added the blue strips of patterned paper and finally made four, 3/8” wide strips of the paper used around the outer edge.

Thank you for joining me here in my corner! I hope these cards inspired you and gave you some ideas of what you can do using the Graphic 45 paper and chipboard found in this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit.

Art Journal-Hero & Paint-June MTW Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I have an Art Journal spread I created for the June More Than Words Challenge “Hero & Paint.”

WM-20210622_201758

I wasn’t sure if I’d come up with something this month for the MTW Challenge, I wasn’t feeling very layout-ish, and I wasn’t able to really narrow down a personal hero. One day I just pulled out my DWM Journal and grabbed a few brighter paints. Then I sat there staring! I think things finally came together when I got a “picture” in my mind of some stenciling. I didn’t have anything like what I was picturing, so I cut one out of some heavy cardstock.

Video:

June 2021 Main

I suppose, if you wanted to really get down to the nitty-gritty, I think I had problems thinking of a hero because I tend to lean to a “I’ll do it myself” attitude. I’m not saying I won’t let people do things for me, I just find doing it myself faster! LOL!

Some close-ups of the spread:

WM-20210622_201853

The silver on the background is from sheets of Prima Run-On Foils. I used my homemade stencil with some Finnabair “Gold Dust” Jewel Effect Paste, and then freehanded some paint highlights!

WM-20210622_201840 WM-20210622_201903 WM-20210622_201944

I used some DWM “Eggplant” & “Lemon” that I had from the October 2020 Tres Jolie Kit Club Mixed Media Kit, and some Vicki Boutin “Juicy Pear.”

WM-20210622_201949

All of the papers have been in my “scraps” pile for ages, and none of them had the border with the manufacturer on them anymore, so I couldn’t even begin to guess where they came from now!

WM-20210622_201910 WM-20210622_201935

I just tore a bit of corrugated cardboard from a box, coated it in some DWM Gesso I’ve had since the April 2019 Tres Jolie Mixed Media Kit (I had an open container way back then already, and with black gesso, I’ve learned a little bit goes a long way!); I then layered my stamped papers, punched circles, and label on top of the cardboard.

WM-20210622_202023

I hope you enjoyed this project. I love getting my Art Journal out because I gives me a chance to do a project without always having to plan ahead or prepare too much! With just a little guideline, “Hero & Paint” I was able to do a project and relax!

Fairy House-MMP April Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

I am bringing you a little project I put together, inspired by the Mixed Media Place’s April Challenge. I don’t often work with pinks, but I really loved the mood board this month, and decided it was a good time to pull out my pink paints!

Aren’t the colors for the April Challenge absolutely wonderful? I couldn’t help but want to make something pink!

Now, how about a few close-ups?

20210519_120450-WM 20210519_120611-WM

The fairy’s house is actually a repurposed bed riser! My youngest moved from his dorm to an apartment and didn’t need them anymore, so he gave them to me! My family has learned I will take anything and repurpose it into a craft project!

20210519_120504-WM 20210519_120519-WM

My little door is from Creative Embellishments, coated in Vintage Gold wax with some ReneaBouquet’s glitter glass as the window. I used a variety of random pieces for my foliage: Christmas berries and leaves from JoAnn’s that I’ve had a couple of years, and some Styrofoam “shapers” with some wire that I thought would look interesting!

The figurines I found a couple of years ago at Dollar Tree and picked them up to have when the right project presented itself!

I hope you enjoyed this project! I had fun putting it all together, even if I did make a massive mess!

May 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge-Beach Bottle

20200527_063247-WMHey, all! I have a beach themed bottle I made for the May 2020 Moodboard Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place! It had been a while since I completed a project that wasn’t Design Team related, and since May was going good for me & having ideas, I was able to squeeze one in!

I just absolutely loved the colors of the moodboard, and even though I’m not a fan of going to the beach, I do love looking at beach elements. All the beauty, none of the sand!

I used a lot of Prima/Finnabair pastes and paints, a couple of Tim Holtz Distress Paints, and one Vicki Boutin paint, even though I’m not sure it’s noticeable anymore!

The shells came from a variety of sources – some I bought, some I’m not entirely sure where they came from.

The flowers are 49 & Market, the chipboard is actually Beautiful Board from ReneaBouquets, as is the final details of beads and butterflies!

Below the video you’ll find the moodboard.

I went into this project not knowing exactly where it was going, or how I was going to get there, but I did record what I was doing, so there is a process video to go along with this post!

moodboard-mmp-5-2020

Awesome moodboard, right? How could anyone resist using those corals and pinks!?!?

It took a lot of layers, but I eventually got the look I wanted! So many textures on the bottle! Some from the crackle paste, some the result of what happens when gesso gets extra wet on glass! You can still see the stripes I made, even though this wasn’t my original plan, I am still happy!

20200527_063204-wm

As you’ll see in the photos below, the microbeads are actually gold. I didn’t notice the color got distorted so much during editing!

Here are some more close-ups:

As a final note, I want to say I would not recommend heating up a sealed glass bottle for long periods of time! Besides the fact that it gets hot, you are increasing the internal pressure! I had a lot of “heat gun enough to stop runs,” followed by periods of cooling and air drying!

Thank you for checking out my project!! Don’t forget to watch the process video to see how I stacked all my layers of mediums!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-iNSD 2020 Challenge-Masculine Layout

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog! Here are some more photos and a video of the project I did for Rae’s “Masculine Layout” challenge, sponsored by the Tres Jolie Kit Club, for International Scrapbooking Day (iNSD)!

To recap, the challenge was to create a masculine layout that included stenciling and chipboard, plus a bonus for using flowers! I used four stencils, I have a piece of chipboard from the May scrapbooking kit and some Grungeboard from my stash, and I got the flowers on…something that isn’t always easy with a “masculine” layout! Plus, and I like to think my subconscious was helping me out here, my layout fits this months sketch challenge (with the sketch rotated 180°, shown below).

Check out my video to see what I did!

I layered my stenciling on top of each other before topping with my Grungeboard chevrons! With all the stenciling, there was already so much going on that I opted to keep it relatively simple around the photo.
DSC_0010-FRAMED DSC_0014-FRAMED
I created the colors I wanted for both of the texture pastes using the paints from the Mixed Media kit & items from my stash (see video for full details!) The chevrons were painted with just simple black gesso (from the Mixed Media kit! to keep them nice and matte!

Getting flowers on a masculine layout isn’t always easy, but I dug into my stash and pulled out pack of neutral flowers. I don’t know how long I’ve owned those Tim Holtz Framed Words, but I found a place for “Adventure” with this layout!

I hope that you were able to join us over at Tres Jolie for the iNSD challenges! I also hope that this layout gave you an idea of what can be done with items from the kits this month, and with the sketch!

    Butterfly Lights

    “Butterfly Lights”

In honor of her one year anniversary of Tres Jolie Kit Club, Kim had an online (Facebook) crop! The first challenge posted was a “bingo” challenge, and this is what I made using [most of] the products that came in the Tres Jolie June Mixed Media Kit!

Challenge #1 Scrapbook Bingo: Complete a project (card, scrapbook page, altered project, etc) using the any of the items list in a row. That row can be straight or diagonal. Upload your project to the Crop challenge file by Midnight (CST) tomorrow [June 9, 2019] for a chance to win a prize. You don’t have to use one of our kits, but it would be nice to see (just no promoting any other kits).

The row with the yellow box is my “BINGO!”

    The breakdown:

    • Watercolor: I know, I know. HOW is there watercolor on there?!?! It was messy, but I added Concentrated Watercolors by Art Philosophy to the project (on top of the Acrylic Modeling Paste, which is where the Mod Podge Acrylic Sealer came in! I used it to keep those watercolors in place after they dried!!)
    • Twine/String: Jute String by Tim Holtz on the top knob
    • Wire: Wire lights by Prima
    • Beads: Teal Glass Beautiful Beads by ReneaBouquets
    • Glitter: Diamond Chunky Glitter Glass by ReneaBouquets
The good news, I’ve managed to (finally) make my computer capable of recording videos!
The bad news? I haven’t edited the video for this project yet! (limited project submission time and all)
BUT…I’m going to edit it! I swear!!

UPDATE: I finished the editing…sorta. I mean, there’s video, but no sound [Update #2: I added music after my son said it was “creepily quiet” LOL!]. By the time I “dealt” with my computer I was too tired of trying. Plus, it’s been many, many years since I’ve played with video editing, and I am still trying to get my groove back! As I continue recording projects I do, the videos should theoretically improve…but for now, here is the video that has had almost 4 hours shaved off!

    Here are some photos!

        Dream (Altered Artist Palette)

“Dream” – Altered Artists Palette – May Creative Embellishments Mood Board Challenge!

I had always wanted to do an altered palette, and when it showed up in the May Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie I was overjoyed!! And, it just so happened that the paints included with the kit word perfectly with the Creative Embellishments Challenge this month!

The mood board for the Creative Embellishments May Challenge!

I rubbed some Prima/Finnabair Metallique Waxes on the fairies from Creative Embellishments.
I found “Dream” at my local Dollar Tree, and it was mirrored. First I sprayed it with some Krylon Original Primer, then I added the Pink-o do Mayo and Halo Pink Gold paint (drying between colors!!) and soaked them in water so the colors could pool together however they wanted!
