Tres Jolie Kit Club–Keychain Album–February 2022 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, y’all! Welcome back to the Corner Scraps Blog! For my final February project I have a little keychain album I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using (almost) the last of my February Cards, Tags, & More Kit, a cut file I made for the page shapes, and some items from my stash to document (part of) a trip I took in 1997. Check out my video to see how I put this little album all together.

Easy peasy, right? A little cutting, sewing, and gluing, and I have a little album will some photos from a trip I took! I left the backs of my pages blank, because I’ll have to use the power of the Internet to look up Hearst Castle and record what it was I saw back in 1997, but other than that, it was a simple project I put together in no time!

I grabbed up some alphas from my stash to create my title page, and just hand wrote the year in. Since I had some of my mini envies left from my Cards project, I decided to add a few throughout the album. I stitched my pages together, without worrying about “neatness”, because sometimes that rough look works just fine!

Some of my pages have two photos attached with my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher – usually if the photos were the same item but at a different angle. I used some embossing powder from my stash, and cut up one of the Tres Jolie Chipboard pieces to scatter throughout the album.

I used every flower from the 49 & Market pack that came in the kit! Those mini flowers were perfect for an album of this size! I even grabbed up the stamp set and added some random lines of music.

Tres Jolie Kit Club–“Carmen” Junk Journal–February 2022 Mood board

Hey, all! Welcome back to the Corner Scraps Blog!

This week I have my Tres Jolie Kit Club mood board inspired project for you – a junk journal using this month’s Scrapbooking Kit! I had an old book cover that I had altered a while ago, just waiting for the right papers to come along to make a junk journal, and the “Carmen” line from 13@rts (13 Arts) was the perfect fit! I really love the combination of the dark pink with the deep green that is in these papers.

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-15

I didn’t make a “How to make a Junk Journal” video for this project—there are tons of how-to videos to be found on YouTube already—I just go over what I’m doing to help give you some ideas of how this month’s kit can be used. Check out my video to see my thought process!

February 2022 Tres Jolie Kit Club Mood Board:

4-moodboard

I mixed up four different embossing powders (check the product list at the end of the post!) and added that mixture to the Tres Jolie Chipboard from the kit. I then added it as little tuck spots on the back cover and front page of the journal.

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-12

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-13

The spine of this cover was in pretty sad shape when I originally decided to do the alterations. I had to layer up some linen hinging tape and book binding tape to hold everything together again, and the outer layer still wanted to peel off – by the fabric and canvas layers I added to my junk journal gave this cover new life.

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-10

In addition to the “Carmen” papers, I have some printables I created and some tea dyed papers I made in here. That music fabric in the above photo has one of the printables printed on it!

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-08

Some of the pages in my journal are dyed with various pink inks/sprays. I have stitching throughout, along with little tuck spots made from corners or layers of paper and fabric/lace. If I wasn’t using bits of the ephemera pack in stitched clusters, I layered them up on a page to add some interest and detail.

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-04

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-09

In addition to the ephemera pack for bits of detail, I used the cut apart page from the “Carmen” paper pad. After I cut out the piece I used, I distressed the edges with scissors and added some “Frayed Burlap” Distress Ink. I think one of my favorite things about junk journals is the freedom they give to the creative process. A lot of the time I would just grab up some of the bits and pieces and just start layering them up – without trying to think if it looked “right.” More often than not, NOT overthinking created easy and wonderful results!

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-06

Feb2022-Mdbrd-CarmenJJ-07

Although I love the creative process of creating junk journals, they are journals! So I also make sure to leave lots of room for journaling – blank pages, tags, and lots of tucks and folds to hold loose bits.

Tres Jolie Kit Club-Cards & Notecards-February 2022 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Normally I try to have a mood board inspired project as my second monthly project for Tres Jolie Kit Club, but that project is currently stuck in a round-a-bout lost between This Is Taking Longer Than I Thought Lane and What Was I Thinking Avenue, and I can’t seem to find the correct turn-out for All Done Drive!

Fortunately, I have another project using this month’s Cards, Tags, and More Kit all ready to go, so this week I’m bringing you some ideas for cards and notecards.
Feb2022-CTM-CardsNotecards-2

Following the thought of “One Sheet Wonders,” I created a cut file in Silhouette Studio to speed up the creation of my squares, rectangles, and a few triangles. I also created some little quilt circles and mini-envelopes to add on. Check out my video, and following the photos, you can find links to my personal DropBox!

Video:

With all those pieces ready to grab and put in place, getting some cards churned out is a [mostly] seamless process! Add on some of the cut apart pieces, some Tres Jolie Chipboard, and stamp some sentiments, and you’re good to go! Since there isn’t too much detail needed for these cards, I will post their sizes, and only add any notes of interest if necessary! Happy Card Making!

I didn’t make just cards, these first three are notecards—even easier to make because there is no fold!

The rest of the photos are all cards – in four different sizes.

3.5”x7” cardstock piece folded to make a 3.5”x3.5” card with a piece of the fabulous Tres Jolie chipboard added for some extra interest! 5”x7” cardstock piece folded to make a 5”x3.5” card. I put the cut apart piece with “Spring” stamped on it on some foam squares to add a bit of dimension.
Feb2022-CTM-CardsNotecards-9
I don’t know why, but I think slimline cards are my favorite size of cards! 7”x8.5” cardstock piece folded to make a 3.5”x8.5” slimline.
Feb2022-CTM-CardsNotecards-7 Feb2022-CTM-CardsNotecards-6
These last two cards are the same finished size – 5.5”x4.25”. I used one piece of 8.5”x11” cardstock, cut it in half horizontally to create two, 8.5”x5.5” pieces, then folded those in half to create the two cards. In the video I talk about a card that gave me some trouble, this is the one! I had to really layer the center up to get something “good” out of the mess I was making!

Here are the two files I created that you are free to use for personal use only. Attribution is not required, but always appreciated! Links for download from my personal DropBox below each image.

Tres Jolie Kit Club–Traveler’s Notebook–February 2022 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Have you seen this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club? There’s a fabulous Spring-themed Traveler’s Notebook and papers from P13 in it. I used my Traveler’s Notebook to document a trip I took to Utah in 1991; these are far from all of the photos from that trip, but it got me started!

Feb2022-CTM-TN-15

I mainly used the kit, as I try to do with my first project of the month, but I did pull some old alpha stickers from my stash because I really need to use them! I also have some map prints I used for my backgrounds—something easy to come by using the Internet! If you are going to use your Traveler’s Notebook for a trip, you could use maps of where you went! Check out my video to see how it all came together!

Video:

Feb2022-CTM-TN-03 Feb2022-CTM-TN-13

Here is what the cover looks like opened up, and the inside cover and first page. For the cover, I added some of my map paper to the spine to help reinforce the bend, cover the staples, and add to the travel theme. Then I added some stamping using the P13 stamp set from the kit. I used some embossing power on a piece of the Tres Jolie chipboard under my title, and that was that! Easy-peasy cover, done!

My inside cover and first page has more map paper on in, and I added some more reinforcement to where the staples are. All the photos added a bit of weight to my pages! I also added a little pocket—incase I come across some memorabilia—some stamping, and one of the cut out pieces from the paper pad.

I have a simple layout idea that you can download from my personal DropBox for each of my two page spreads, plus a map collage I created using many public domain images. All files are for personal use only, attribution is not required, but always appreciated! You can download each file on an individual basis (links under each image), or get them all in a ZIP file here.

I’m not going to lie, the majority of the photos in my notebook are horrible! They are very, very blurry, even after attempting to correct them! They actually look better small! (That’s what happens when taking photos on a 110 camera in the early 90s – sometimes from a moving vehicle! LOL)

All of my spreads followed the same process, more or less. I put my background map paper(s) in place then added my images and text. After I created my text boxes on my computer, I printed them out on some of the cardstock from the kit! To do it, I lied to my printer and told it I was using A5 – 5-7/8”x8-1/4” – paper, but made sure what I wanted printed didn’t go past the 6-inch mark. I also did not use an Inkjet for the text! I have a monochrome laser printer I got on clearance ($35!) a couple years ago that I used. I don’t know if an Inkjet would necessarily work on text this small because it would (likely) bleed out and become blurry. If in doubt, you could find a scrap piece of cardstock, similar to weight and texture of the P13 from the kit, and run a test print first.

I didn’t really think about how I wanted to do my layouts until I decided which photos would be grouped together; and for this one, I decided I needed circles! After I had put all of my spreads together, I went back though and added my stamping, some of the cut out pieces from the paper pad, and stripes of paper in a few spots.

When I printed out the text for this page I missed the fact I didn’t finish proofreading and that some of it got cut off in the program! (Oof! I think I was starting to get tired!) It should end with “The Great Salt Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River.” I’ll be going back in and reprinting and adding the new print on top.

As you can see, my original plan was switched up a bit on the left page when it came time to put it all together. After I had my background papers put together I realized my original layout would cover too much (practically all) of the flower paper in the upper left corner.

Feb2022-CTM-TN-07 TN-Layout-5-forMask

For personal use only. Download the JPG from my personal DropBox here.

I’m sure that I could have never used my inkjet printer for the first text block on this spread because the text size is so small, but I wanted to add the historical data about what happened to the (former) town of Thistle.

Feb2022-CTM-TN-08 PersonalUseOnly-MapCollage-6

For personal use only. Download the JPG from my personal DropBox here (the basic black & white template can be found here).

On the left page I have a rather good shot of a hawk? falcon? I don’t know exactly, but for being a photo that would have been taken at a distance of a moving object, it’s actually on of the least blurry images from this batch!

On the right page I have a couple of photos of me and my cousin (attempting) to fish. We stopped by where she was living at the time to visit her, my aunt, and her (other) grandparents. There are more photos of us together, but they might have to be a TN all their own!

Feb2022-CTM-TN-09 TN-Layout-7

For personal use only. Download the JPG from my personal DropBox here.

Both pages of this spread are random photos that I don’t think I will ever be able to say exactly where they were taken! There is a possibility that I will come across duplicates that my grandma labeled, but for now I can just say “Somewhere-land, Utah.”

Feb2022-CTM-TN-05 TN-Layout-8

For personal use only. Download the JPG from my personal DropBox here.

More random photos. There are actually only six photos total, I decided to turn the one creek shot into a 4×4 grid. With my grid, I kept the negative cut to use as a placement guide so I could keep the spacing equal and the images aligned when I stuck them down (I used the print and cut feature of Silhouette Studio and my Cameo for all of my pictures).

Feb2022-CTM-TN-04 Feb2022-CTM-TN-14

I have a couple of pages left in my TN, and I saved a strip of map to use to reinforce the inside folds of the back cover after I get the base map print adhered.

Thank you for joining me here in my corner, I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done in your own Traveler’s Notebooks.
