Tres Jolie Kit Club–Slimline Cards!-March 2023 Cards & Mixed Media Kits

Hey, y’all! How’s your March coming along, and why does March always seem like it is at least 62 days long? I swear it feels like it should be closer to the middle of the month than it is!! Anyhow…

This week I have a couple of slimline cards for you I created using the March Cards, Tags, & More Kit and the mediums and stencil from the Mixed Media Kit. These cards are relatively quick and easy – waiting for the texture paste to dry was the longest part! Make sure to check out my video to see what I did!

mar23-cards-01

Pretty easy, right? With the wonderfully beautiful Stamperia papers and chipboard, these cards are quick and easy to put together! I used some cover stock for my card bases, and some craft foam as the base for my card fronts – just building the layers of paper and ephemera on top of the foam.

mar23-cards-06 mar23-cards-02

From the moment I saw the damask-ish print paper in the Stamperia stack, I knew I wanted to put on a card front – I just love the color and pattern! I also knew I wanted to use that little section of script print on a card, so that’s what I put together for my “Soulmate” card front! For the “Greetings” card front, I used the cut-offs from the damask-ish paper as a bottom border and a piece of the cover stock I used for the bases above it – also glued to a rectangle of craft foam.

I didn’t start out with measurements in mind; I was just working with what I had! However, since measurements can sometimes be helpful, I have added a couple of photos here with the “Soulmate” card front – the “Greetings” card was made with what I had left!

measurement-1 measurement-2

Once I had the papers glued down and let the glue dry completely, I coated the card fronts and the larger chipboard I planned on using with some clear gesso, grabbed up the stencil from the kit, some texture paste from my stash, and added some stenciling to the backgrounds. With the stencil still in place and the texture paste still wet, I started adding Lindy’s mediums. I didn’t want to mix the mediums into the texture paste, because I didn’t want a solid, even color! For the “Soulmate” card front, I spritzed some of the Moon Shadow Mist on the top-ish area of stenciling, sprinkled on the Magical Powder closer to the bottom then just scraped everything together – creating a little bit of a  gradient effect. For the “Greetings” card front, I only used the Magical Powder, but I made sure to sprinkle it on unevenly so there would be some variation in shading after everything had dried.

mar23-cards-03 mar23-cards-09

I did the same basic technique with the stencil and texture paste on the larger chipboard pieces I was going to be adding to the card fronts – the only difference was with the vase. For the stenciling on the vase, I didn’t add any of the Magical Powder or scrap the Moon Shadow Mist after I added a couple of splatters, I just let it soak into the texture paste a little and carefully soaked up some of the larger drops before removing the stencil.

mar23-cards-04 mar23-cards-10

Once the stenciling had dried on the chipboard pieces, I decided I needed to add some of the gold to the intricate edge on the Tres Jolie Chipboard – the off-white of the original just stood out too much! I didn’t want a heavy coating, I just wanted to add some shine and create a smoother transition between the chipboard and stenciling – so I grabbed the gum arabic and magical powder, added a bit of water, and brushed it on.

mar23-cards-05 mar23-cards-08

After all the mediums had dried, it was only a matter of adding the chipboard flowers, phrases, and ribbon/seam binding! I used two layers of craft foam to lift the vase off the background, added some of the smaller chipboard flowers to the flowers in the vase for some depth, added a small length of the seam binding to the “Soulmate” tag – tucking the ends under the edges of the card front – and glued everything down to my base!

I glued the chipboard flowers flat on the base of the “Greetings” card, added a single layer of craft foam under the Tres Jolie Chipboard to give it a little lift, and tucked in a few of the flowers from the pack in the kit after I added some gum arabic/Lindy’s “paint” to them. I tied a bow in the last bit of seam binding I had, added it between the chipboard butterfly and the “Greetings” sentiment (backed with a small piece of craft foam), and glued the card front to the card base.

And that was it! Two cards are done in a relatively short amount of time!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-September Mood Board-Loaded Envelope

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a Loaded Envelope I made using the Tres Jolie Kit Club September scrapbooking kit & moodboard! I just love the “Industrial Romance” papers from ScrapBoys in this month’s kit. They are the perfect combination of steampunk & flowers, and just great to look at and play with!

DSC_0058-FRAMED

I used the solid cardstock (from my stash) to build the envelope, then used the papers from the kit on the envelope, tags, and wands. Check out the video below where I describe the completed envelope. Below the video you will find the September Moodboard and some more photos!

Here is my envelope with three pockets. The final size is 9in x 6in (after all the photos I have included a sketch of the measurements), with the second pocket 4 1/2in and the third pocket 3in. The sketch is the measurements for the basic construction, the only thing no included in the sketch is the 9in x 6in piece of cardstock I used as the top of the back pocket; the one folded down with the zipper.

DSC_0052-53-FRAMED

This is the front and back of the shaker wand I created using a ReneaBouquets Small Shaker Box. I used the professor from the Tim Holtz “The Professor” stamp set (from my stash) on the back piece of acetate and one of the small wings from the Mechanicals found in this month’s kit as the mustache, then back that with a square of paper from the ScrapBoys stack in the kit. The large key in the shaker is from this month’s kit, but all the other parts are from my stash. For the back, I added Tim Holtz’s “Voltage” die, which is painted using Prima’s “Steampunk Copper” Paint and spray with the Lindy’s Gang from the kit. And all of the copper “welding”? It’s Tulip Fabric Paint – Beads In A Bottle – “Copper”!

DSC_0049-FRAMED DSC_0050-FRAMED

For the Hummingbird Wand, I used a cut file from the Silhouette Store, a Tim Holtz Rosette, some pieces from the cut apart sheet, and a ReneaBouquets Hummingbird. For the lacy wand, I just grabbed up some lace from my stash and added another Tim Holtz Rosette and a cut apart pieces as well.

And finally here are the tags and little note card I made to go in the pockets! I just eye-balled the sizes based on the paper I was working with!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-September 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Follow Along With Us

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

For my first Tres Jolie Kit Club project of the month, I’m bringing you my “Follow Along with Us” Birdcage! I made this project using only items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit; even the “glue” was the gel medium that came in the kit!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

Want to see how it was all done? Check out my video below!

DSC_0003-FRAMED DSC_0004-FRAMED

I mixed some of the beads into some of the gel mixed with the Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist and spread it on the back and bottom of the cage. For the outer base and the bars, I mixed more gel with some Moon Shadow Mist and brushed it on, like paint. In that photo above you can really see the purple from the Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist on the back panel!

DSC_0002-FRAMED

For my bird, I brushed on a coat of the gel medium mixed with some of the Moon Shadow Mist, then sprinkled on some of the glitter. I also used the gel medium to adhere the bird to the cage bar!

DSC_0005-FRAMED

After I placed my flowers where I wanted them (using the gel medium as the “glue”) I splattered some of the Moon Shadow Mist on them.

I hope you enjoyed this project and were able to follow along if you chose to! I’ll see you again soon with another project using the fabulous September Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie!

Fairy Moonlight – July 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

Today I’m bringing you a little piece I did for the July 2020 Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place blog.

DSC_0013-wm-resized

Looking at the moodboard for this month I was immediately drawn to the mushrooms. I absolutely adore mushrooms in art. In food, I can tolerate them (except those white “button” mushrooms, Ewww), but in art I absolutely love them! In addition to the mushrooms, all the colors kept making me think of sunsets and the dusk of early evening. Check out my process video, which can be found under the Mixed Media Place Moodboard!

Process Video:

DSC_0016-em-resized

I have quite a few mediums making up my background; a couple of Jacquard Paints topped with three different Distress Oxide Sprays. For my moon and stars, I used two Prima/Finnabair paints, one of which is “Unicorn’s Hair,” which was also used for my splatter!

DSC_0019-wm-resized

I really loved the idea of just having a fairy silhouette looking at the night sky, so I grabbed up my Creative Embellishments chipboard, added some black gesso, but by the end, I decided to add a coat of “Charcoal Black” Matte Wax.

DSC_0017-wm-resized

I used “Burnt Sienna” Liquid Acrylic Paint to give some shadowy depth behind the mushrooms.

DSC_0012-wm-resized

To add a little extra to the moon and stars I lightly brushed on some “White Gold” Metallique Wax, and to give a little extra shine to the mushroom caps I added some “Heather Hills” wax on the front curves (if that makes sense!)

Thank you for joining me here at my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project and I hope you’ll visit me again soon!

Stay Crafty,
C.J.

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!
