Fairy Carousel-Creative Embellishments June 2020 Challenge

Hey, all! I got to feeling rather ambitious this month and decided that I wanted to make myself a Fairy Carousel using the carousel from the Carousel Ride SVG Kit by SVGCuts. The original carousel is a cupcake holder, but I didn’t need to hold cupcakes, I just needed a place for my Fairies from Creative Embellishments to go for a ride!

With all the shine from the epoxy and embossing powder, I just had to add a string of lights! Check out the video below the Creative Embellishments Challenge image.

After I followed the assembly instructions on SVGCuts, I coated everything in epoxy (in stages!), attached my fairies, added the filigree, ran the lights, and added the flatbacks! Most of the time spent on this project was waiting for the epoxy to dry and the carousel assembly.

Here are some close-ups:

Fairy Mirror

A little decorative mirror I put together for the July 2019 Mixed Media Place Challenge.

For this project I was inspired by the colors found on the July, Mixed Media Place, mood board, most specifically the yellows, reds, and seafoam green. Especially since the green on the ReneaBouquets Fairy “Belle” was a fantastic match!

Below the mood board you’ll find a process video, some close up photos, and a product list.

And, because she happened to come along, Lucy (Great Dane) is helping to demonstrate how well the mirror works!

    Beautiful handmade roses by ReneaBouquets!

JudiKins Diamond Glaze works great for this because is thin and dries fast!
I’ve had these unbranded glass beads for a while, and they have almost made it to a few previous projects, but today I finally got to use them and not just put them back away! (They are a little bigger than the micro beads from ReneaBouquets)

      Water Fairy

I love water lily’s, I think they are so beautiful floating out on a pond, so I was, of course, immediately drawn to, and inspired by, the water lily in the Mixed Media Place’s May Mood Board
I just couldn’t help myself! I have a pond on my property, but I have yet to get the water lily’s I want for it, so I decided to make one! (I think the husband worries they will interfere with fishing too much!)

“Dream” – Altered Artists Palette – May Creative Embellishments Mood Board Challenge!

I had always wanted to do an altered palette, and when it showed up in the May Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie I was overjoyed!! And, it just so happened that the paints included with the kit word perfectly with the Creative Embellishments Challenge this month!

The mood board for the Creative Embellishments May Challenge!

I rubbed some Prima/Finnabair Metallique Waxes on the fairies from Creative Embellishments.
I found “Dream” at my local Dollar Tree, and it was mirrored. First I sprayed it with some Krylon Original Primer, then I added the Pink-o do Mayo and Halo Pink Gold paint (drying between colors!!) and soaked them in water so the colors could pool together however they wanted!

      Imagine (4"x12" Canvas)

“Imagine” created for the Mixed Media Place April (2019) Challenge!

I LOVED the colors of the mood board this month, and I’m not even the biggest fan of pinks! Besides the colors, the mushroom put me in a fantasy mindset, when for me equals fairies!!

I don’t have a lot of rhyme or reason with this canvas, and originally I had hoped to recreate the mushroom…somehow…but as it so often happens, the project took on a life of it’s own! The pink tree is actually a photo I took, ran through Photoshop, printed on regular paper, and transferred! It didn’t transfer quite how I had planned, so I had to get “creative” with the Shimmerz paste! 😂

The fairy was black chipboard, but I used some white gesso before painting it with the Pink-Blue Opal Magic and adding a T-H-I-N coat of the Peacock Metallique Wax!

      Flight of Fancy Canvas

My 8×10 canvas for the March More Than Words Main Challenge! Fantasy + Wings

This month the main challenge over on the More Than Words Blog was to be inspired by “Fantasy & Wings.” For me, fantasy always makes me think of fairies. If it’s fantasy, there’s going to be some kind of fae involved! This month I also had pastes on my mind, and I happen to have a nice set of Finnabair’s Fantasy Rust Effect Paste…which goes with the fact that I also love using purple, teal (turquoise), and blue together…especially with fantasy!

I may not have had a fairy that I could get to “fit” on this canvas, and I have a few different chipboard fairies, I did have a handy-dandy fairy door from Creative Embellishments! I also happened to have the Astral Pink Butterflies from ReneaBouquets, and the color on them is

just beautiful…and perfect for my piece!

More Than Words Main Challenge – March 2019

I love the cells that the paint pour created along this edge!
Baked Texture – Patina Oxide on the door & Ancient Amber on the leafy frame!
I love, love, LOVE these butterflies … I think I may need to make a stockpile!

**For the record – no, everything wasn’t dry yet, I was running out of month!!**

      Fairly Purple Shadow Box!

I received the January Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie and was just in love with the shadow box! (Yes, part of the kit! Kim puts EXCELLENT kits together!! Tres Jolie has a monthly scrapbooking, mixed media, and card, tags, & more kit. No, I’m not reimbursed in any way to promote the kits, I’m a regular customer who happens to love the kits!)

Anyhow…the kit also came with purple paint & purple flowers…(and other items)…
Then I saw the January Mood Board Challenge at Mixed Media Place and I thought to myself, “Huh, that works!”

Mixed Media Place January 2019 Mood Board

After I primed the shadow box (Kilz spray primer because I didn’t want to use a paintbrush on chicken wire!) I put on a coat of DecoArt “Lavender” Acrylic Paint. After that was dry I applied a thin coat of Prima’s “Frozen Berries.” The chicken wire was sprayed with Ayeeda Mist “Patina Bronze”by 13 @rts. The doily is a Creative Embellishments doily that I used black gesso on then painted with Prima’s “Rustic Brown.”

After all that it was just a matter of playing with placement until I thought it “looked right.” (All the products I used are listed at the bottom of this post.)

      All lit up!

       Here are some close ups:

      Midnight Fae!

Midnight Fae! Created for the ReneaBouquet’s Fall In Love With Fairies October Swap!

Over on the ReneaBouquet Facebook page, DT Member, Donna, posted the ReneaBouquet’s Fall In Love With Fairies October Swap! This is the tag I did for that swap to send to my swap partner!

I had a lot of frustrated fun putting this together! There were quite a few things that were a learning experiance! Sometimes I think my swap partners end up becoming guinea pigs for my experiments!

This tag is a #12 tag, but I cut it out of some corrugated cardboard from an old box. I like to reuse/recycle/repurpose when I can, so all those products I order get their boxes saved to be turned into craft projects or to be used to ship swap items out!

My first order of busines was to coat the tag with some black acrylic paint so the Prima Opal Magic Waxes would show the best, plus, I was making a “nighttime” themed tag!

A close up of bottome corner that has the Beautiful Board Fairy Kisses, Plum Glass Microbeads, and Silver Glass Microbeads, all found at ReneaBouquet. The fairy was coated in Wilted Violet & Seedless Preserves Distress Oxides, the “mulberry type” roses were sprayed with a couple of different sprays, Heidi Swapp’s “Tinsel” Color Shine, & some Tim Holtz “Hickory Smoke” watered down and mixed with some “Pewter” Perfect Pearls!
A closer look at the Beautiful Board Moon Fairy from ReneaBouqet with more Silver Glass Microbeads to accent! The moon was coated in a lot of different products until I got what I wanted! Some of those porducts no longer show up, but I guess they helped add to the texture. However, the final coat was Prima’s “Old Silver” Metallique Wax.

In both of the above photos, and the three below, you can see where I added some Black Shard Glitter Glass from ReneaBouquet! The texture paste used with Tim Holtz’s Honeycomb stencil is “Foiled Again,” by Shimmerz. (At the time of this writing, the Shimmerz website was not loading for me, sorry I couldn’t add links directly to the products.)
