Tres Jolie Kit Club-Interactive Christmas Cards-December 2021 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

I have a couple of large interactive cards for you this week using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s December Cards, Tags, & More Kit, items from my stash, and a cut file, Magic Iris Shutter Card, from PreciousDelights4U.

FRAMED-20211117_164511

These interactive cards were fun to make! I go over the Magic Windows Slider card in my video, but I used this video to help me do it. I did not show the assembly of the Iris Card because the woman who sells the cut file has her own video you get a link to when you purchase the cut file.

Video:

First I’ll go over the few details about the Magic Iris card that I have.

FRAMED-20211117_165343

The original size of the cut file can fit all of the parts on one 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper. I enlarged mine to the point where the top ring – the one cut from the Graphic 45 paper – was 6-7/8”. I actually enlarged it “by sight” until the inner circle was large enough for the candy canes to fit in. I do have a tip for people who are cutting this using Silhouette Studio and a Cameo! Make sure of your cut lines before hitting “Send”! On the shutter pieces, I had to select the shutter piece and the two squares that make up the tabs and weld them so they would only cut on three sides as intended! (The owner of the cut file has a video for Cricut users!)

FRAMED-20211117_165332 FRAMED-20211117_165358

I used the candy cane, Tres Jolie chipboard piece from the kit as my iris center, and kept it simple, just coating it in some embossing powders and setting it on some glitter coated cardstock! I sewed along the reindeer paper with some gold thread, and added the gold trim to cover the little bit of seam on the solid cardstock I pieced together to make my card base. To give a little “oomph” to the tab, I glued down one of the Graphic 45 chipboard pieces. This card is now ready for personalization!

This next card is made using a die I’ve had for a while, and in my video I said I got it from Amazon, but there is no packaging…so maybe I didn’t! I’ve had it a while, but this is the first time I’ve used it!

FRAMED-20211117_165309

I just thought it was so awesome being able to change the image on this card! And to really make is show, I made sure to have a lighter paper as my “revealed” image so it really popped out!

FRAMED-20211117_165255 FRAMED-20211117_165319

Just like with the Magic Iris card, I used a metallic gold thread to stitch the patterned paper to my card base. Then I had to add the bling because I forgot to take into account the movement under the surface! When I went to test the mechanism, it wouldn’t turn! I used a craft knife to slit enough of the stitches to allow clearance, then added the bling as a “cover.” I used a piece of the Graphic 45 chipboard in the center – trimmed down a little – added bling to the “lever” and finished off with adding two gems to the goggles on the chipboard Santa’s hat.

Thank you for joining me here in my corner! I hope you enjoyed these two interactive cards and they gave you some ideas of what you can do using this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit.

Tres Jolie Kit Club–Advent Calendar-Moodboard Inspired Project

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

I have, for my moodboard inspired project, an Advent Calendar using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s Limited Edition Advent Calendar Kit, the December Scrapbooking Kit, and even some of the paint and glitter from the December Mixed Media Kit!

AdventCollage

Now, this project was a rather “hefty” project, and there was more than once I thought about stopping! LOL! But, I recorded my process, so I hope you find it helpful and enjoyable! It did turn into two, longer than I expected, videos though – one for the base, and one for the roof! Check them out!

Part 1 – the base:

Part 2 – the roof:

December 2021 Moodboard:

moodboard

For my base I created my own “stain” using the silver paint from the mixed media kit, the Distress Oxide from the Advent kit, and some clear gesso. I had to cover (practically) every surface of the calendar with it! I just couldn’t leave anything unfinished! Do you have to? No! The only surfaces I didn’t stain were the drawer fronts and the inside of the back panel of the roof – because they would be getting covered with gel medium and paper! (The measurements for my “stain” are approximately 1/3 cup clear gesso, between 1/4-1/3 of the bottle of silver paint, and 60 full squirts of the Distress Oxide Spray – and yes, I rubbed it in, I didn’t brush it on!)

FRAMED-20211202_222711

My drawer fronts are covered in paper from 49 & Market found in this month’s Scrapbooking Kit. I used two sheets of paper, and probably close to 2/3rds of the package of rub-on’s! (To make sure your paper(s) are centered, work from the center out!) At the bottom edge of the bottom row of drawers and the top edge of the top row, I added some of the Snow Glitter to “fill-in” the small gaps since the drawer fronts, when all together, are slightly larger than 12 inches. After the rub-on’s, and before the snow, I sprayed four layers of Krylon Matte Finish for some extra protection.

FRAMED-20211202_222602 FRAMED-20211202_222628

After the gel medium I used to attach the papers dried fully, I just started layering the rub-on’s (before the snow glitter). In the center of the Advent I added the large die cut wreath and roses from the paper pack and then came in with a few of the rub-on poinsettias. My “knobs” are Tim Holtz Hitch Fasteners (I pre-drilled my holes!) and, using jump rings, I hung the Tim Holtz Number Tokens that can be found in the Advent Kit.

Once I saw the watercolor tree paper I knew it belonged in the roof! It really shaped how the rest of my Advent Calendar came about. If you look closely at the trees, you can see where the pattern starts it’s repeat, I made that specific tree the center of my background. With careful cutting and placement, the seam is practically invisible – especially with the “distraction” of all the other trees in the top!

FRAMED-20211202_222701

I used a variety of Distress Crayons to add color to my trees and deer, I didn’t want to paint them, and I didn’t want to stain them – watery liquids will follow your wood grain and I wanted more control without having to seal the wood first and I still wanted the wood grain to show. The Distress Crayons gave me that control! I could control where my colors went and rub them in to still show the grain! (My deer and trees were also coated with the matte spray so the “snow” wouldn’t activate the water-reactive Crayons)

FRAMED-20211202_222937

FRAMED-20211202_222825

FRAMED-20211202_222949

If you watch the video, you will see that I “dye” my deer and trees before I ever add the crayons. I did this for a couple of reasons – 1) The color of the wood can effect the colors placed on top – like the difference of what happens when you use white or black gesso and 2) I rarely know exactly what I am going to be doing so I like to “be prepared”!

In addition to the Glitter Snow in the kit, I made my own snow paste! I just had to have snow everywhere!! I didn’t even mind the snow on the legs of the deer! Why? Have you ever walked through snow? That stuff will stick to you and I think it helps add to the illusion of movement – like the deer were really walking through.

FRAMED-20211202_222801 FRAMED-20211202_222804

I also added some white bottle brush trees from my stash and a small string of lights inside the roof. On the front panel, I had to add more snow! I finished drawing the snow mounds across, laid down a layer of white gesso, then added my snow pastes!

FRAMED-20211202_222637 FRAMED-20211202_222645

For my roof I wanted snow, but I also wanted the shingles to show – so I compromised using a stencil! After I stained my roof I added a few coats of sealer in hopes the pastes wouldn’t break through and absorb the stain. It worked – mostly! I added my stenciling to the roof, then the roof peak so I could blend it into the stenciling and while the paste was still wet, I added glitter.

Tres Jolie Kit Club–Christmas Explosion Box-December 2021 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

For my first Tres Jolie Kit Club project of December I have my “kit only” (+glues & basic tools!) project – a festive Christmas Explosion box! This month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit comes with a DCWV Explosion Box all ready for you to decorate using the fabulous Graphic 45 “Christmas Time” papers.

FRAMED-20211117_164446

This project is rather quick and easy using the kit! Check out my video to see how I put it together!

Video:

Easy, right? Now for a few photos and some reminder info from the video!

FRAMED-20211117_165446

After I decided which paper I wanted to use on the lid, I held the lid up to a light

and placed the paper over it so I could line up the position of the larger clock. Then I carefully set it down on my desk so I could trace the lid onto the the paper!

FRAMED-20211117_165520

The inside of the box was just about as quick and easy as the lid – just more cutting! My pockets were cut 3-1/8” (height) x 3-5/8” (width) then scored 1/4” in from each side. I then used a 2-1/2” circle punch at the tops.

The first layer flaps had the papers cut 3-1/8” x 3-1/8”, the second layer of flaps were cut 3” x 2-7/8”, and I just carefully worked my way around the bottom piece trimming as I tested placement!

FRAMED-20211117_165619

The papers for the outer panels of the box were cut 3-1/8” x 3-1/8”, I added some strips of paper for the edge of the lid, then I topped the box off with a chipboard frame and the large flower!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-December Mixed Media Kit-Bottle Brush Display

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Due to life, this will be my final project for the Tres Jolie Kit Club, but I’m sure you’ll find the incoming design team to be very inspirational. As my final project, I used the rest of the ornaments I made for the first project to make a bottle brush tree display.

20201130_092902-FRAMED

Since I already had the ornaments made up, this project went together rather quickly and easily! Check out my video to see the process:

Video:

20201130_093018-FRAMED

I used the last bit of clay I had to cover an up-cycled jar, attached the ornaments, gessoed and painted, added some of the PearlEX powders, and finished them off with some of the glitter. Easy peasy!

Here are some close-ups so you can get a good look at the beautiful details from the mould, and how those paints and powders look together!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-December 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Ornaments

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

This week I’m bringing you some ornament ideas to make using items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club and some resin from my stash.

20201122_090350-FRAMED

I did a few different color combinations for you, to give a good sampling of what can be done to fit your personal style and décor. Check out my video to see the process!

Video:

Now, how about a few close-ups?

20201122_090205-FRAMED 20201122_090215-FRAMED

I did a few different base colors. Some have black gesso under the red paint, some have white gesso under the silver or red paint, and some have the PearlEx powders mixed into the clear epoxy I used.

20201122_090435-FRAMED

After I had all my ornaments painted how I wanted, I added some of the PearlEx powders to them all.

20201122_090226-FRAMED 20201122_090427-FRAMED

After I used some acrylic spray to keep my powders in place, and I gave all my ornaments a coating of the glitter from the kit. I think these will beautifully reflect blinking Christmas lights!

Thank you for joining me at my corner! As always, I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done using the items found in this month’s Mixed Media kit. I’ll see you again next week!

Deer Winter

Deer Winter!

Recently I have been getting an urge to branch out and try my hand at Mixed Media canvas work. When I came across the deer at the 99¢ store I knew I had found what to try and work around! Plus, it went well with the December Challenge over at Creative Embellishments that had already put the idea of doing some winter work in my mind!

Unfortunately I had already started, and almost completed this project before I bought my webcam, so there is no video of my process…which spanned over multiple days! But I did take a lot of close up photos for a better look!

I used Amazing Cast Resin with the Prima Large Flourish Mould them more Amazing Cast Resin to “glue” the flourishes, Tim Holtz Wood Slices, and canvas together.

    Christmas Tag!

The tag I made for the “Glorious Holiday Tag Swap!” hosted by Donna (bonprof) over at scrapbook.com!

I sprayed the canvas, texture pasted the canvas, sprayed it some more, and added some glitter paste in select spots! (Good news, I finally got a webcam, someday I hope to make videos…it is just so much easier than typing it all out! I assume anyhow, at least I’ll be able to say “Here, watch this!” LOL)
I wrapped the gold wire around a tape roll (packing tape size) to make the wreath base, then just started sticking the pine needle die cuts around it. The ornaments are from ReneaBouquets (link in product list), as is the glitter I used to “fill in” some of the areas of them. I embossed them with Red Geranium Embossing Powder (Ranger) and added a light coat of Rose Gold Metallique Wax (Prima). I did the same to the Merry Christmas.

    Yes, it lights up!

    Christmas Teacup

My first tea cup art, just in time for Christmas!

Handle side, side view! This was a learning experience for me, and I learned that I need more Mod Podge to hold down the pieces against the strain of the Crackle Paint! You can also se some of the beautiful Shard Glitter Glass & Microbeads I added to the spoon!

The other side of the cup. Here I added some of the Microbeads to the pine cone & some Shard Glitter Glass & Microbeads just under the edge of the pine cone. Plus, in the center of the poinsettias are some more Microbeads.
