ReneaBouquets Upcycle Challenge-August 2021

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Over at Scrapbook.com, ReneaBouquet’s hosted an “Upcycle” Challenge, and I decided my newly broken pair of scissors would be the perfect item to upcycle! I grabbed up a 9×12 canvas board, a bunch of mediums, chipboard alphas, some Finnabair Mould pieces, my ReneaBouquet’s and got going!

Check out my process video to see how everything came about!

Process Video:

Before I got too carried away, I remembered to take a photo of my broken scissors! I had probably owned these scissors 20 years or so, so they had a good run, but they decided to retire themselves! (How do I know how long I’ve owned them? Because I remember their original purpose! They use to be my fabric scissors!)

In addition to the Finnabair stencil, I added some “Bee Hive” Beautiful Bits to my background for some added texture.

wm-20210821_123506

This project was rather relaxing because I didn’t have a plan. I just started grabbing items, grabbing mediums, and seeing where everything would take me! It took a few layers of mediums to get the look I had originally envisioned, but I enjoyed the process!

wm-20210821_123457

I don’t know if I’ve ever said it, but I am absolutely IN LOVE with Finnabair’s waxes!! The colors, the finishes, the coverage…EVERYTHING!

wm-20210821_123440

You can see how many different Finnabair mould pieces I have on here! And, like her waxes, I love her moulds! I was super excited when she came out with her “dark” line, and I was even more excited when I realized I could get some use out of a few of those “dark” pieces on this canvas!

wm-20210821_123542

ReneaBouquet roses and Beautiful Beads were the final touch for this canvas. The beads coordinate with the background colors, and those roses are the perfect contrasting color.

Thank you for joining me in my little corner! I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2021 Moodboard: “Be Happy” Mixed Media Canvas

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my moodboard inspired project; a mixed media canvas using items from both the July Mixed Media Kit and the July Scrapbooking Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club! Pink flowers, gold veining, and butterflies were my inspiration from the moodboard, so I gathered my supplies and just went with it!

FRAMED-20210708_113200

I love moulds, so I was super excited when I saw that the Mixed Media Kit came with a fabulous Stamperia frames mould! Be sure to check out my video to see how I used the mould and how my canvas came together! (Note: Although I found it unnecessary with the Amazing Cast Resin, you can use various household products to help release the frames from the mold, such as baby powder, corn starch, cooking spray, and mica powder. Personally, I think the cooking spray is best for resins, and powders [would be] best for clays – because the resins absorb powders.)

Now for some close-ups:

I used the Dina Wakley paints from the Mixed Media kit on my background, baseboard doll, chipboard butterfly, and frame—along with lots of water in some areas to make the paints more translucent! I added just a touch of Vintage Gold wax to the frame details and wing edges.

FRAMED-20210708_113250

FRAMED-20210708_113354

FRAMED-20210708_113436

I brushed some gel medium along the edges of the flowers to hold the gold microbeads in place, adding just a bit of detail and texture to the flowers! Then I dug into my stash and grabbed all three of my art stone bottles (mega, regular, & mini) and started adding them on. I like to sprinkle my art stones in place before adding the Diamond Glaze—that way I can get my placement down before making it permanent.

FRAMED-20210708_113423

FRAMED-20210708_113407

As my final touch, I used a metallic gold pen from my stash to add some gold “veining” along the edges of my torn paper and to circle the epoxy dots from the kit.

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media and/or Scrapbooking Kits!

Spring Butterfly Canvas-March 2021 MMP Mood Board Challenge

Hey, all! Look at me, I’m back! After having to take a little bit of a hiatus, I have managed to put a project together! It felt good to get paint stuck to me again. And, if we’re being honest, I really missed the smell of my Finnabair waxes!

For my first project to bring me back into the fray, I have a Spring Butterfly Canvas for the March 2021 Mixed Media Place Challenge. The canvas and doily are from a couple of years ago that was originally supposed to be something Christmas-y, but it failed. After the failure, I decided to coat the whole thing in Kilz spray primer and set the canvas aside until inspiration struck. That inspiration finally struck, over two years later! LOL!

I was worried I would have somehow forgotten everything I’ve learned over the years during my hiatus, but I’m happy to report I was able to access the creative storage in my brain and get this put together. Check out my process in the video below:

Check out this beautiful mood board for the challenge! It really got me in the mood for spring!

Now, how about some close-ups!

photostudio_1617569948905-WM

Here you can see I added some shine to the green lily using some of my Unicorn’s Hair Sparks paint. I didn’t add the Sparks to all of the flowers, I kept it to the green, white, & off-white flowers.

photostudio_1617569992720-WM

Here you can see how those gold microbeads really set off the wing! I love how my butterfly came out! So many layers of paint and wax! I was worried I wasn’t going to get it “just right,” until I came across my beads!

photostudio_1617570045670-WM

Here is the whole butterfly! You can see how the color changes depending on the light. Even though this photo was taken straight on, with the light coming from the right, the left wing shows up as more purple, and the shine really stands out!

photostudio_1617569902387-WM

Look at those beautiful glass beads! I didn’t need a lot and I love how they give an almost magical look to the piece!

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! Hopefully, it won’t be too long before I have another project up for you!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-December Mixed Media Kit-Holiday Canvas

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

My first project for December is this silver and gold Holiday Canvas I created using the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club, with just a few staple items to go along and a cut file to use as a template for my poinsettias.

20201119_111636-FRAMED

This project was rather simple to go together! There was a bit of elbow grease used to roll out the clay for my poinsettias, but after I knew what direction I was headed it just came together! Check it all out in my video:

Video:

20201119_111717-FRAMED 20201119_111702-FRAMED

After I really smooshed the clay into the Prima Mould I let it start drying to make it easier to pull out of the mould. I also found that I could bend the mould some and let those pieces dry before taking them out. The mould flattens back out, while the ornaments stay curved! If my word-y description is clear as mud, I show my methods in my video!

20201119_111646-FRAMED 20201119_111738-FRAMED 20201119_111728-FRAMED

For my poinsettias, I used a cut file from the Silhouette store to make templates that I pressed into some rolled out clay and cut out with a craft knife, then hand-shaped and set aside to dry. The centers of the poinsettias are just some little balls of the clay I rolled with my fingers before letting them dry.

After my clay pieces were all in place I coated everything with the silver paint from the kit. Then things got really wet when I just started adding on the PearlEx powders! There was a lot of water, a lot of letting the powders flow how they wanted, and a lot of heat gun use! (And yes, in the video you see me using two heat guns to get the job done!)

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Mixed Media Kit-*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end, I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0019-FRAMED

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

DSC_0016-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–May 2020 Mixed Media Kit–Grunge Canvas

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog! Today I am bringing you my first official project of the month using the May Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club! (I say official because some of the mediums made their way onto my projects for the iNSD challenges over this past weekend!)

For my first project I made a Steampunk/Grunge piece using the canvas, the mediums, one of the VHS reels, and the pack of Prima Trinkets.

DSC_0012-FRAMED

My thought process for the coloring was rather simple! I was just sitting and staring at the mediums and ended up thinking “Yellow & Blue make Green!” Or in this case, gold and blue make teal!!

Check out the video to see how I put all this together:

Now, how about some close-ups?

DSC_0014-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED
I made built up some texture paste at the upper left and lower right corners before adding the wax and paint! I had a mix of chipboard and metal embellishments, but brought them together with paint!
DSC_0022-FRAMED DSC_0026-FRAMED
I stacked and stacked to give dimension to my canvas and added three contrasting Prima Pebbles as a final touch! Even though I have a lot of different textures, keeping with the same color as the paint kept it from being overwhelming!

DSC_0021-FRAMED

I hope this project gave you some ideas of what you can do with items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit! I’ll be back on YouTube and the blog on the 15th with another Mixed Media project! Keep an eye out for projects from the other Tres Jolie Designers! And don’t forget to visit the Tres Jolie Kit Club Café and check out the sketch and mood board challenges!
