Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – *Follow Along With Us* – July Mixed Media Kit-A Day At the Beach

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my first project for the Tres Jolie Kit Club for this month using the Mixed Media Kit. Recently, we have had some requests for more detailed instructions for the projects we create, so last month we started the “Follow Along With Us” series, where each month we will focus on a different kit and create a project using only items from that kit, staple items (i.e. glues), and/or household items (ex: isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol). For this project, I created a video to follow along with and I hope I didn’t overexplain or underexplain anything!

DSC_0081-FRAMED

Because alcohol inks dry so quickly, this was a rather quick project to put together! I just grabbed up my gel medium to adhere the flowers and photo, which I mounted on some cardboard for rigidity and my rubbing alcohol, that works well as an alcohol ink blending solution.

Check out my video for the full details and process, and make it with me!

Now, how about some close-ups?

DSC_0085-FRAMED

The top of the larger flower cluster on the left of the photo. You can also see some of the blending between the three alcohol inks, and the splattering of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0095-FRAMED

A close-up of the blending for the sky. As you can see, the splatters give a sense of depth depending on how much the “Snow Cap” reactivated the color behind it.

DSC_0097-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project and it helped you in using the items from the kit this month! Make sure you keep an eye out each month for more of our “Make It With Us” videos and/or written instructions! I’ll be back next week with my project using that beautiful art deco chipboard from A.B. Studio.

Fairy Carousel-Creative Embellishments June 2020 Challenge

Hey, all! I got to feeling rather ambitious this month and decided that I wanted to make myself a Fairy Carousel using the carousel from the Carousel Ride SVG Kit by SVGCuts. The original carousel is a cupcake holder, but I didn’t need to hold cupcakes, I just needed a place for my Fairies from Creative Embellishments to go for a ride!

DSC_0063-wm DSC_0040-wm

With all the shine from the epoxy and embossing powder, I just had to add a string of lights! Check out the video below the Creative Embellishments Challenge image.

After I followed the assembly instructions on SVGCuts, I coated everything in epoxy (in stages!), attached my fairies, added the filigree, ran the lights, and added the flatbacks! Most of the time spent on this project was waiting for the epoxy to dry and the carousel assembly.

Here are some close-ups:

Sunset Dolphin-Lindy’s Gang June 2020 Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner of the Internet!

Today I’m bringing you an altered mirror from Dollar Tree for the Lindy’s Gang June 2020 Color Challenge!

DSC_0043-wm

I used a lot of Lindy’s Gang products just to make the three colors for the challenge! I know I only two are required, but I like trying to get everything in! The “Guten Tag Teal” Embossing Powder is the only Lindy’s product I own that was a match all on its own, I had to create the bright green and orange-ish coral, which I show in the video (below the Lindy’s Challenge board), plus I’ll add the details to the other photos on this post.

challenge-

The Lindy’s Gang Challenge Color Board.

DSC_0031-wm DSC_0033-wm
For the coral flowers, I mixed “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker, “Magical Mai Tai” Flat Magical, and “Plumeria Pink” Flat Magical powders. While the flowers were still wet, I sprinkled on “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker in the center. For the bright green flowers, I made a spray of the “Aloha Avacado” Flat Magical, but I didn’t think it was quite bright enough, so I also sprayed the flowers with “Pineapple Paradise” Flat Fabio Sprays.
DSC_0030-wm DSC_0035-wm
Fortunately, I had a few teal flowers that matched the “Guten Tag Teal” Embossing Powder I used on the ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board and in the center of the green flowers. For the frame around the mirror, I mixed the same colors I used on the coral flowers into some Liquitex Gel Medium and brushed it on. Then I spritzed it with water and sprinkled on more of the “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker.
DSC_0032-wm DSC_0036-wm
I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do with the mirror, but I didn’t want to leave it as it was, then in finally dawned on me to use my alcohol inks! For the sunset sky, which needed to match the coral, I used “Sunset Orange” and “Flamingo.” For the water, which needed to match the teal, I used “Patina,” and to make my wave caps I used the “Pearl” mixative. I made a stencil from some scrap cardstock and a cut file from the Silhouette Store (ID# 297497) and used Nuvo Embellishment Mousse “Black Ash” to create the dolphin.

DSC_0024-wm

And there you have it. I used a simple mirror from Dollar Tree and spruced it up using a lot of Lindy’s Gang products!

Thank you for joining me here in my corner!!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Altered Box

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my third, Tres Jolie Kit Club, Mixed Media Kit project of June, an altered box. I’ve been keeping this box around since I ate the candy that was in it back in December. I knew I’d eventually find a way I wanted to use it!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

It took me building up a few layers of mediums to get the look I wanted, check out the video below to see how it all (finally!) came together.

DSC_0005-FRAMED DSC_0006-FRAMED

To the lid of the box, I added some ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board & “Candy” (flatbacks), cabochons, resin flowers from my stash, and some of the glass glitter that had come in the April 2020 Mixed Media Kit. For the roses, I used Lindy’s Magical Powder to give them their color, and the Gilding Polish on the cabochons.

DSC_0009-FRAMED

You can see how I made a double crackle effect by layering some Tim Holtz “Crazing” Distress Medium (from my stash) on top of the Cosmic Shimmer Crackle Paste from this month’s kit. Then, to really bring out the “Crazing” cracks, I rubbed in some of the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish from the kit.

DSC_0008-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project, and that it gave you some ideas of what the mediums can do that came with this month’s kit! I’ll see you again in July!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-“Today”

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today for the Tres Jolie Kit Club, I’m bringing you, well, “Today”!! A kind of shabby, kind of rustic memo board I created using items from the kit, items from my stash, and some scrap door casing.

DSC_0010-FRAMED

I love how the crackle paint came out on this! I gave me the aged look I was really wanting! Check the video to see how everything went together!

As I mentioned in the video, this project went together rather quickly! I let the flowers air dry so the color could bleed how it wanted, and with the help of my heat gun the mediums were dry in no time!

Here are some close ups of that beautiful cracking:

DSC_0014-FRAMED DSC_0017-FRAMED
DSC_0019-FRAMED DSC_0011-FRAMED

Aren’t those cracks just amazing? I think it’s some of the best cracking I’ve had. Ever!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

I love the bit of sparkle with the Lindy’s Magical Powder, it goes so well with that shine from the Metallic Gilding Polish.

DSC_0015-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED

To get that aged look on the frame I layered the crackle paste on top of a coat of the Lindy’s Magical Powder. Because the Lindy’s is water-based it was easily reactivated and absorbed by the paste!

DSC_0020-FRAMED

This isn’t in the video, because I thought of it later, but I added a light coating of some Tim Holtz Matte Collage Medium on clothes pin that has the polish. Just enough to add some protection to being touched!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done using items from this months kit!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Hello

Hi, all! Welcome back to my blog! Can you believe it’s already June?

In case you missed the reveal post, this month marks the 2-year anniversary for the Tres Jolie Kit Club!! Huge shout out to Kim for putting fabulous kits together for the past two years!!

Now, on to my first project of the month!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

This kit gave me two of my favorite products, something metal, and something that has a crackle effect! And if having a metal envelope wasn’t enough, the Metallic Gilding Polish is a dream! Check out my video to see how I put this fabulous décor piece together!

Now, have a look at these close ups!

DSC_0025-FRAMED

Look how smooth that Metallic Gilding Polish is! You’d never know it wasn’t the original color of the “hello” and the leaves!

DSC_0002-FRAMED

I’m a hoarder, especially when it comes to flowers! And these Prima flowers from previous Tres Jolie Kits were no exception! Kim is always generous with the flowers she adds to kits, which works perfect for those of us who may use them more sparingly, and those who don’t! You’ll always have enough!

DSC_0009-FRAMED

I love the teal, black, and grey of the flowers! The match the patina of the envelope, and compliment the pinks of the Lindy’s Gang Magical Powder & the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish!

DSC_0006-FRAMED

Check out those cracks! Aren’t they fabulous?!?! As my final touch I found a package of Prima Say It In Crystals in my stash that have gems that were the perfect match!

I hope you enjoyed this project & that it gave you some ideas of what to do with your kit this month!

May 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge-Beach Bottle

20200527_063247-WMHey, all! I have a beach themed bottle I made for the May 2020 Moodboard Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place! It had been a while since I completed a project that wasn’t Design Team related, and since May was going good for me & having ideas, I was able to squeeze one in!

I just absolutely loved the colors of the moodboard, and even though I’m not a fan of going to the beach, I do love looking at beach elements. All the beauty, none of the sand!

I used a lot of Prima/Finnabair pastes and paints, a couple of Tim Holtz Distress Paints, and one Vicki Boutin paint, even though I’m not sure it’s noticeable anymore!

The shells came from a variety of sources – some I bought, some I’m not entirely sure where they came from.

The flowers are 49 & Market, the chipboard is actually Beautiful Board from ReneaBouquets, as is the final details of beads and butterflies!

Below the video you’ll find the moodboard.

I went into this project not knowing exactly where it was going, or how I was going to get there, but I did record what I was doing, so there is a process video to go along with this post!

moodboard-mmp-5-2020

Awesome moodboard, right? How could anyone resist using those corals and pinks!?!?

20200527_062621-WM

20200527_062616-WM

20200527_062706-WM

It took a lot of layers, but I eventually got the look I wanted! So many textures on the bottle! Some from the crackle paste, some the result of what happens when gesso gets extra wet on glass! You can still see the stripes I made, even though this wasn’t my original plan, I am still happy!

20200527_063204-wm

As you’ll see in the photos below, the microbeads are actually gold. I didn’t notice the color got distorted so much during editing!

Here are some more close-ups:

20200527_062514-WM

20200527_062735-WM

As a final note, I want to say I would not recommend heating up a sealed glass bottle for long periods of time! Besides the fact that it gets hot, you are increasing the internal pressure! I had a lot of “heat gun enough to stop runs,” followed by periods of cooling and air drying!

Thank you for checking out my project!! Don’t forget to watch the process video to see how I stacked all my layers of mediums!

Products used:

Finnabair: Heavy Gesso, White Crackle Texture Paste, Paper Texture Paste, Sparks Paint “Phoenix Feather,” Metallique Paint “White Pearl,” Patina Effect Paste “Blue,” Texture Fantasy Pastes “Blue Green” & “Fire Orange,” Rust Effect Paste “Lavender,” and Liquid Acrylic Paint “Burnt Sienna,” 49 & Market: Garden Seeds “Sea Breeze” (it was a partial pack), & Blossom Blends (Technically the “Bluebell” & ‘”Linen” Packages, but I only used the bamboo looking pieces), Distress Paint: “Abandoned Coral” & “Picked Raspberry,” Vicki Boutin: “Sugared Strawberry” Paint, ReneaBouquets: Beautiful Board – Bubbles, Beautiful Beads – Iridisent “Mermaid Tails,” Gold Glass Microbeads, & Magical Miniatures, Double Sided Printed Butterflies “Memory Keeper,” Brea Reese Texture Pebbles, Tim Holtz Mini Snips, FabriTac, Ranger Glossy Accents, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Hobby Shells & other misc. shells, Ranger Heat-It heat gun
