Tres Jolie Kit Club-November 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Altered Embroidery Hoop

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

For my final November project, I’m bringing you an altered hoop using items from my stash with items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club.

DSC_0034-FRAMED

I used an old embroidery hoop from my stash and upcycled some aluminum screen for this Autumn Butterfly piece! Check out the video below to see how I did it! (My husbands hands even make their Internet debut!)

Video:

Now, how about a few close-ups?

DSC_0043-FRAMED DSC_0036-FRAMED

I wasn’t overly worried about “clogging” some of the holes in the screen with the gesso, I think it adds a little something to the piece and makes it seem more connected to the hoop. You don’t have to coat your screen with gesso and wax, I like it better this way though because it cut out the shine from the aluminum. You can also see that I added some “Vintage Gold” wax to the hoop to add just a little shine to offset the matte.

DSC_0035-FRAMED DSC_0038-FRAMED

I finished off two partial packs of flowers on this project and added some die cut leaves coated in “Vintage Gold” wax and sprinkled with some glass glitter for my cluster on the bottom of the hoop, bringing the gold of the butterflies to the outside as well.

DSC_0049_FRAMED DSC_0053_FRAMED

Isn’t it beautiful with the light coming from behind? It makes me think of the setting sun at the end of an autumn day.

Tres Jolie Kit Club-October Mixed Media Kit-Follow Along With Us

Hey, all! Welcome back to my Corner!

For my first project this month I am bringing you my Dreamcatcher for the Tres Jolie Kit Club! For this project I only used some white gesso from my stash in addition to the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit, and I hope I have made the video in a way that you will be able to follow along with! I rarely know what direction a project is going when I start it, but I try to edit the video in a way that allows you to see the steps I took!

DSC_0004-FRAMED

Check out the video for my process of how I went about adding the color to my Dreamcatcher, and follow along if you’d like!

Video:

Pretty simple, right? But the results are just fabulous! And, as you’ll see as you use your Dina Wakley paints, a little bit goes a long way!

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0012-FRAMED

Here on the main piece of the Dreamcatcher you can see how I created a rainbow effect using all four paints from the kit and blending where two colors met. After my paint was dry I used the Stickles from the kit to outline all of the edges.

DSC_0018-FRAMED DSC_0007-FRAMED

For the feathers I mixed some white gesso with the Nuvo spray from the kit and brushed it on. After that was dry I added my Dina Wakley paints, again blending where the colors met. For the final touch I brushed on a light coating of the stickles to give some sparkle all over the feather.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this quick & easy project using this month’s Mixed Media kit and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the mediums found in this month’s kit!

Thank-you!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-September Mixed Media Kit-Spinel Panel

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

This week I’m bringing you a little panel I created using items from the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s September Mixed Media Kit and items from my stash!

DSC_0012-FRAMED

The script on my background is from the Finnabair “Read My Letter” stencil from my stash, but I did use the TCW Gel from this month’s kit with it.

This project went together rather quickly and easily, to see how it was done, check out my video!

Video:

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0014-FRAMED

After I had all the parts I wanted glued down to my background (the TCW Gel from the kit makes a great glue!) I coated it all with some white gesso, then started adding on my mediums; starting with the Lindy’s Gang from the kit.

DSC_0016-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED

I mixed the beads from the kit with more of the TCW Gel and brushed them onto the Prima flower vine. It makes me think of water droplets on the petals!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

As you saw in the video, I was able to use items from previous Tres Jolie Kits to put this panel together! I love the fact that at the “end” of my Mixed Media Kit I have mediums left to add into my stash and use at a later date!

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media Kit!

Stay Crafty, Friends

Fairy Moonlight – July 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

Today I’m bringing you a little piece I did for the July 2020 Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place blog.

DSC_0013-wm-resized

Looking at the moodboard for this month I was immediately drawn to the mushrooms. I absolutely adore mushrooms in art. In food, I can tolerate them (except those white “button” mushrooms, Ewww), but in art I absolutely love them! In addition to the mushrooms, all the colors kept making me think of sunsets and the dusk of early evening. Check out my process video, which can be found under the Mixed Media Place Moodboard!

Mixed Media Place Moodboard

Process Video:

DSC_0016-em-resized

I have quite a few mediums making up my background; a couple of Jacquard Paints topped with three different Distress Oxide Sprays. For my moon and stars, I used two Prima/Finnabair paints, one of which is “Unicorn’s Hair,” which was also used for my splatter!

DSC_0019-wm-resized

I really loved the idea of just having a fairy silhouette looking at the night sky, so I grabbed up my Creative Embellishments chipboard, added some black gesso, but by the end, I decided to add a coat of “Charcoal Black” Matte Wax.

DSC_0017-wm-resized

I used “Burnt Sienna” Liquid Acrylic Paint to give some shadowy depth behind the mushrooms.

DSC_0012-wm-resized

To add a little extra to the moon and stars I lightly brushed on some “White Gold” Metallique Wax, and to give a little extra shine to the mushroom caps I added some “Heather Hills” wax on the front curves (if that makes sense!)

DSC_0011-wm-resized

Thank you for joining me here at my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project and I hope you’ll visit me again soon!

Stay Crafty,
C.J.

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August Mixed Media Kit-Altered Paintbrush

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

This week I have used items from the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media kit, along with items from my stash, to create this altered paintbrush.

DSC_0106-FRAMED

I used the Prima Modeling Material with the Finnabair Mould to create the bust and flourishes, which I “painted” with the Lindy’s “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder, and after I prepared my paintbrush I used the Distress Oxide Sprays to add the background color. Check out my process video to see how everything came together!

Video:

DSC_0113-FRAMED DSC_0126-FRAMED

I used some Prima/Finnabair Crackle Texture Paste on my background (from my stash) with a couple of stencils I have collected from previous Tres Jolie kits! After the paste had dried I used the three Distress Oxide Sprays from this month’s kit to give the background some color. Plus, I finished off two packs of flowers, both of which I had been hoarding from previous Tres Jolie kits.

DSC_0109-FRAMED DSC_0108-FRAMED

I love the mould that came in the kit this month, and I especially love that it is an item I will be able to keep in my stash to use over and over again! Some items, like the glitter I sprinkled about from a previous Tres Jolie kit, will (eventually) run out, but that mould will be in my stash forever!

DSC_0105-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this altered paintbrush and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay crafty!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July Mixed Media Kit-Use Your Wings

Hey, all!

Welcome back to my blog. Today I’m bringing you my final project for this month using the second transparent gear from A.B. Studio that came in the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s July Mixed Media kit, along with the alcohol inks from the kit and some items from my stash.

DSC_0100-FRAMED

For this project I really wanted to showcase the transparent nature of that A.B. Studio gear so I used a gel medium to add some texture while retaining the transparency. Check out the video below to see the whole process as I was doing it!

Video:

DSC_0103-FRAMED

I really wanted a ton of texture on my gear, so in addition to the stenciling I have some sisel and some texture beads.

DSC_0102-FRAMED

I used the “Sunshine Yellow,” and “Sunset Orange” alcohol inks in the area where I would be placing the cluster.

DSC_0110-FRAMED

I used clear embossing power on some of the cut-out pieces, then used the “Purple Twilight” alcohol ink and the “Snow Cap” Mixative to add some color to the mushroom tops and some of the flower clusters. When I sprayed the ink with some rubbing alcohol I just let it bleed out how it wanted. I didn’t dry to clean it up or move it.

DSC_0111-FRAMED

On a few of the other embossed, cut-out pieces I used some of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0109-FRAMED

I think the olive green on the butterfly and words was the perfect complementary color to use with the three colors of alcohol inks that came in this month’s kit.

DSC_0105-FRAMED

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I hope to see you again soon!

Mixed Media Place-June 2020 Challenge-Green Dragon

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you an altered hoop I made for the June 2020 Challenge over at Mixed Media Place. I didn’t use a traditional embroidery hoop for this project, I just happened to have, what I believe was, an old Tri-Chem® hoop. It conveniently came with a metal insert, so I had a nice sturdy surface to work on!

DSC_0030-WM

My original idea for this project looked nothing like what came about; I hadn’t even considered a dragon originally! I had originally planned to go with a nature theme, but when I was looking through my chipboard to see what types of leaves I might have, I came across the dragon, thought, “Hey! Dragons can be green…,” and from there I just went with it. Check out my process video below the Mixed Media Place Challenge Board to see how it all went together.

Now, for a few close-up photos:

DSC_0032-WM

DSC_0038-WM

The chipboard dragon from Creative Embellishments was what started my inspiration for my project.

I used two Prima/Finnabair paints on the dragon, Opal Magic “Green-Gold” and Sparks “Fairy Wings.”

DSC_0035-WM

DSC_0031-WM

It wasn’t a full pack of flowers, but I hadn’t used very many of the 49 & Market “Emerald Isle” previously; this project finished my pack off.

I love all of Finnabair’s Rust Effect Pastes in their original colors, but this project called for a little sparkle to be added to them, so I watered down the Opal Magic paint and let it separate and pool at will.

DSC_0033-WM

DSC_0043-WM

I used a mix of Brea Reese Texture Pebbles and some (very) micro glass beads at final accents.

Here you can see just how VERY micro those yellow glass microbeads are.

DSC_0034-WM

DSC_0044-WM

The stencil I used on the background is one I made quite a while ago in Silhouette Studio and cut with my Cameo 3 (which wasn’t easy on stencil material!) The iridescent beads are “Citrus Breeze” from ReneaBouquets.

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – *Follow Along With Us* – July Mixed Media Kit-A Day At the Beach

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my first project for the Tres Jolie Kit Club for this month using the Mixed Media Kit. Recently, we have had some requests for more detailed instructions for the projects we create, so last month we started the “Follow Along With Us” series, where each month we will focus on a different kit and create a project using only items from that kit, staple items (i.e. glues), and/or household items (ex: isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol). For this project, I created a video to follow along with and I hope I didn’t overexplain or underexplain anything!

DSC_0081-FRAMED

Because alcohol inks dry so quickly, this was a rather quick project to put together! I just grabbed up my gel medium to adhere the flowers and photo, which I mounted on some cardboard for rigidity and my rubbing alcohol, that works well as an alcohol ink blending solution.

Check out my video for the full details and process, and make it with me!

Now, how about some close-ups?

DSC_0085-FRAMED

The top of the larger flower cluster on the left of the photo. You can also see some of the blending between the three alcohol inks, and the splattering of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0095-FRAMED

A close-up of the blending for the sky. As you can see, the splatters give a sense of depth depending on how much the “Snow Cap” reactivated the color behind it.

DSC_0097-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project and it helped you in using the items from the kit this month! Make sure you keep an eye out each month for more of our “Make It With Us” videos and/or written instructions! I’ll be back next week with my project using that beautiful art deco chipboard from A.B. Studio.
