Blossom by blossom …

A layout, with a photo I took, using the Tres Jolie February scrapbooking kit.

I was smitten with the 13@rts paper used for the background, and fortunately Mother Nature let the first signs that spring will return peek out so I could have a photo that matched the colors perfectly!

I grabbed my Ranger Gold Embossing Powder, TCW Paste, & my Art Anthology Lotus stencil for the background, and the bit of ribbon on the bottom I’ve had for a few years!

Under the photo I cut apart Prima’s “Rose Receipts” for layers and fussy cut “Midnight Garden” for the darker flowers peeking out at the top and bottom of the stack.

All of the “top flowers” (the ones with centers showing!) came from the Prima flower packs that were included with the February Tres Jolie Kit, and I dug into my stash for the “bottom flowers” (the ones where only petal peek out!) and the leaves.

An altered box I did for the Reneabouquets Feb 2019 Valentintes/Romantic Mood Board Challenge over on Facebook!

I started with the Shimmerz Raspberry Sherbet for the lower half of the box then used their Salt of the Earth for the upper half & lid, and left it to dry overnight. When I work up the next morning I felt that something was missing, so I pulled out my new Prima Indian Pink wax, my Nuvo Mousse, and my jar of Iridescent Glaze, and I sat down to ponder what to do with it all!

Eventually I decided to put the Indian Pink wax on top of the Raspberry Sherbet, I added a middle band of color with the Nuvo Mousse, and I put the Iridescent Glaze on the remaining white Salt of the Earth. After it was all dry I was arranging the flowers on the lid and kept thinking I should add something subtle, which is where the lattice stenciling came from. Then I finished arranging my flowers, sprinkled on some glitter glass, and added the “Astrial Pink” butterfly from ReneaBouquets for some extra color.

I received the January Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie and was just in love with the shadow box! (Yes, part of the kit! Kim puts EXCELLENT kits together!! Tres Jolie has a monthly scrapbooking, mixed media, and card, tags, & more kit. No, I’m not reimbursed in any way to promote the kits, I’m a regular customer who happens to love the kits!)

Anyhow…the kit also came with purple paint & purple flowers…(and other items)…
Then I saw the January Mood Board Challenge at Mixed Media Place and I thought to myself, “Huh, that works!”

Mixed Media Place January 2019 Mood Board

After I primed the shadow box (Kilz spray primer because I didn’t want to use a paintbrush on chicken wire!) I put on a coat of DecoArt “Lavender” Acrylic Paint. After that was dry I applied a thin coat of Prima’s “Frozen Berries.” The chicken wire was sprayed with Ayeeda Mist “Patina Bronze”by 13 @rts. The doily is a Creative Embellishments doily that I used black gesso on then painted with Prima’s “Rustic Brown.”

After all that it was just a matter of playing with placement until I thought it “looked right.” (All the products I used are listed at the bottom of this post.)

    All lit up!

    February 2019 Counterfeit Kit!

    My February Counterfeit Kit!

Once again I am going to do my best to use up supplies I have on hand using the Counterfeit Kit Challenge (CKC) as inspiration. The above photos are the supplies I pulled together for this month. (NOTE: I DO NOT have 12 sheets of patterned paper, the bottom photo is of the *other* sides of what I consider my *main* choice…but a lot of the “backs” really went with the kit too!)

The following are what I consider my “staple” supplies. The supplies I use (almost) always!

This month I tried something new for me. I didn’t really think too much about what I was choosing. Basically, I picked my papers and cardstocks, then just started grabbing packages of embellishments that had something I thought *could* work, and just stopped when my CKC box was full. My previous kits took a lot more thought, I would basically pull out anything that could work then spend an excessive amount of time overthinking “this or that.” I’m hoping to cut down on my overthinking!

My CKC box. I need my kit to have boundaries…so I don’t call my whole scraproom my “kit!”

    Let It Snow!

I came up with this project using the mood board over at Creative Embellishments January Challenge!

I just went through my supplies with winter and snowflakes on my mind, and hoped for the best! LOL!!

For the background I glued down some ReneaBouquet Beautiful Board – Beautiful Bits – Snowflakes & a Beautiful Board Snowflake Accent, then coated it all in Prima Royal Blue & Powder Blue Rust Effect Pastes. For the white paste I first put down some TCW Modeling Paste, then I topped it with more TCW Modeling Paste mixed with some Prima Paper Texture Paste + 13 @rts White Ayeeda Ink + some 13 @rts Magic Power. (All because I didn’t have a white grit paste like I thought I did!)

I received the chipboard clock in a swap back in July 2018, I just coated it in “Rustic Brown” Prima Metallique paint and the pearls in a PocketLetter swap in January 2018.

The feathers are from Creative Embellishments, coated in gesso and “White Pearl” Prima Metallique Paint.

The dark blue flower is a Prima flower, and the white flowers are Tim Holtz. The light blue flowers, the butterfly, and the Chunky Glitter Glass are all from ReneaBouquet!

    Travelers Notebooks–CKC Oct. 2018

Two Travelers Notebook spreads I have put together using only items from my Counterfeit kit!

#home is a view of the changing of the seasons down by my pond – Oct. 01, 2018

Everyday is my Great Dane, Lucy, standing in the shade waiting for me to catch up on the way back to the house at the end of our walk!

    all smiles

    all-smiles-Me-May1982

A full 12×12 layout using only items from my Counterfeit Kit! I once scrapbooked with limited supplies because I was just getting started with this craft, working from this kit reminds me of those days, and forces me to really think.

As a bonus, I actually finished off two packages of embellishments! Granted neither of them were all that full, but it felt good to use something up, better than I thought it would! I know buying new is fun and exciting, but finally using all of a product or that “special” paper is (almost as) exciting!

    Counterfeit Kit Challenge–October 2018!

I just recently heard about this rather awesome challenge, and have done a couple of practice rounds to try and figure out a method that worked for me. This month I think I (almost) figured out how my mind works!

In short, over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge, you build a kit from your stash that is inspired by the “store bought” inspiration kit chosen by the challenge. Think of it this way, it’s like a mood board for kit building!

For the month of October the inspiration kit came from Wild Hare Kits, a kit club that builds a kit based on your needs and preferences! It’s a “personal shopper” for supplies! Anyhow…to be more specific, the kit chosen for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge is the kit that was made for Wild Hare’s September Guest Designer, Mandi Holmes.

    Inspiration Kit:

    OCTCKCPapersInspirationOCTCKC-BITS&BOBS-Inspiration

    Here is my kit:

    Oct-2018-CKC-Pprs&stplsOct-2018-CKC-mm&embellies&alphas

    And here is my process:

I look at Colors, Patterns/Textures, Alphas, and Embellishments.

In this kit the colors I saw were teal, brown, pink, a little green, and yellow/yellow-orange. The patterns that stood out to me were chevrons, wood, “+,” stars, a little floral, and faux washi. The alphas were brown, wood, and some square sticker alphas then finally, I look at the embellishments. For me I saw sequins, stickers, puffy stickers, and framed phrases. This is it, this is what I listed for myself to use as guidelines as I searched my stash.

I find picking out my patterned papers first works great for me! After all, they tend to be a major part of layouts/projects! I have a rather large supply of papers, but eventually I narrow it down to around twelve.

    My patterned paper choices:

    100118115610011811571001181158

While I am picking out my papers, I also pick out some that would work as “cut aparts,” or accents. Either because of their pattern, because of their size, or because I’ve already cut into them!

    10011811591001181159a1001181202

Next, I choose cardstock (and in this case a sheet of vellum also):

    1001181056

    Now the hard part. Embellishments.

For me this means rummaging through ALL of my products that fit under the umbrella term “embellishment.” Initially, I choose A LOT! A lot more than is even remotely reasonable!
And, since my alpha packages are stored in the same cabinet, I also pick some alphas out that would fit my kit! (For the record, I try to pick already opened packages first.)

    1001181207100118121910011812211001181223100118122510011812101001181211100118121510011812161001181218

Now the absolute hardest part. Reduction!

I narrow down all my embellishments and alphas until the fit in this box with my papers and cardstocks. This is how I keep my kit all together, and this is how I force myself to reduce! If I didn’t give myself a maximum space for my kit to occupy, I’d never be able to do the challenge! I would just have to take a photo of my entire room and say, “Look! My kit takes up four walls!” This is also why I am so excited about this challenge…there’s getting to be less and less space for me in my room!

    1001181232

After my box is all packed I throw together my mixed media products (stamps, dies, inks, etc.). They don’t go in the box for two reasons, 1)Inks can leak and 2)They are rather bulky.

    10011813011001181301a

And as always, I have my “staple” supplies. One’s that are (almost always) a constant for me no matter the project.

    08111816130903181558b10011808511001181302

Now, off to try and make a something from all this …

    Toblerone

Using a Traveler’s Notebook to document little tidbits!

This was the first TN spread I did, but I never got around to posting it! I’m trying to get my … EVERYTHING… all caught up, and that includes at least sharing some photos of projects that didn’t get a full post with lots of details up.

Plus, it’s a rather straight forward spread! The sticker with the date, the bee, and the beehive are all print and cut stickers from the Silhouette Store. The honeycomb stamp (using Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide) and embossing; Tim Holtz. The puffy stickers and yellow washi; Hip Kit Club. My papers all came from my scraps, and that one little photo corner is from Pink Paislee’s Hello Sunshine line!
