Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Sketch Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you the project I did for the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s monthly challenge (sketch image below the video)! I love A.B. Studio papers, and I almost always think they should be turned into some kind of notebook or journal! Maybe it’s because they are all so awesome I just want to see them all at once! And with Tres Jolie Kits, I get to see a lot of A.B. Studio!
DSC_0001-FRAMED

I didn’t entirely think up this project on my own, I knew I wanted to do a journal, but I didn’t necessarily want to do a full junk journal. The A.B. Studio Instagram solved my problem when I saw an accordion fold mini album on a post (using the same paper line, none the less)!

Check out my video below!

Original Sketch Mirrored Sketch
sketch Sketch-Mirrored

I used the mirrored sketch as my journal cover, and included the tag and clock elements! Sketches don’t always have to be for layouts!

I’ve included images of the inside of my journal if you’d like to see it closer!

Here’s a little something that I didn’t think of until after the video was done:

PaperClipFront PaperClipBack

I just grabbed up a couple jumbo paperclips, some of the same burlap I used in the journal, a couple of the typewriter tiles from the kit, and glued them together with some E6000.

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with this month’s scrapbooking kit! Don’t forget to join our sketch challenge over in the Tres Jolie Kit Club Café!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Hello

Hi, all! Welcome back to my blog! Can you believe it’s already June?

In case you missed the reveal post, this month marks the 2-year anniversary for the Tres Jolie Kit Club!! Huge shout out to Kim for putting fabulous kits together for the past two years!!

Now, on to my first project of the month!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

This kit gave me two of my favorite products, something metal, and something that has a crackle effect! And if having a metal envelope wasn’t enough, the Metallic Gilding Polish is a dream! Check out my video to see how I put this fabulous décor piece together!

Now, have a look at these close ups!

DSC_0025-FRAMED

Look how smooth that Metallic Gilding Polish is! You’d never know it wasn’t the original color of the “hello” and the leaves!

DSC_0002-FRAMED

I’m a hoarder, especially when it comes to flowers! And these Prima flowers from previous Tres Jolie Kits were no exception! Kim is always generous with the flowers she adds to kits, which works perfect for those of us who may use them more sparingly, and those who don’t! You’ll always have enough!

DSC_0009-FRAMED

I love the teal, black, and grey of the flowers! The match the patina of the envelope, and compliment the pinks of the Lindy’s Gang Magical Powder & the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish!

DSC_0006-FRAMED

Check out those cracks! Aren’t they fabulous?!?! As my final touch I found a package of Prima Say It In Crystals in my stash that have gems that were the perfect match!

I hope you enjoyed this project & that it gave you some ideas of what to do with your kit this month!

Creative Embellishments May 2020 Challenge-Steampunk Card

Hey, all! This is the last project I’m doing for May, but I’ll be back on June 1, 2020 with the Tres Jolie Kit Club Reveal!

Today I have a steampunk card I created for the May Challenge over on the Creative Embellishments Blog.

20200530_123729-wm

I don’t know what I’ll be doing with the card yet, but it’s good to have some one hand! Or so I’ve heard, I’m not a real big card maker, I find them difficult to do! But I’m happy with how this one has come out! All of the chipboard gears, the ATCoins, and the Circle Shaker Set are from Creative Embellishments, I just added the Patina and Rust Effect Pastes to go with my old, DCWV paper.

I always say “that was easy” after I finish a card, but I always have trouble getting myself to make another one! Maybe I’ll slowly (likely very, very slowly!) start making more!
I hope you enjoyed this card & thank you for joining me here in my corner!

May 2020 Lindy’sGang Challenge-ATCoins-Journey

Hi, all! I have managed yet another project this month!! Still not going to question or argue with my brain’s decision to be active this month!

This time I have made a set of Artist Trading Coins for the Lindy’s Gang May 2020 Color Challenge.

20200528_194512-WM

Below the Lindy’s Gang Color Challenge Image, you’ll find a quick process video!

Here’s a quick (7 minutes) video of what I did:

Now for a few close-ups:

For the background I used a circle punch on the paper ribbon and added a stamped image that I embossed with some Lindy’s Gang “Silver Moon Mistletoe” Embossing Powder (Discontinued?). For the stars I mixed a little of the “Plumeria Pink” Flat Magical with some water and brushed it on, and for the wings I mixed the same “Plumeria Pink” Flat Magical with some white gesso to lighten it up. I dyed the cheesecloth with the “Aloha Avocado” Flat Magical powder, and after everything was dry I just started layering, adding some sisal, twine, and “Small Talk” phrases!

Once I figured out where I was going with this project, it went along rather quickly! Sometimes the idea is harder than the execution!

I couldn’t find it on the site), ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board-Beautiful Bits “Star,” The Paperie Shoppe “Uncharted” Paper Ribbon, Creative Embellishments ATC Coin Blanks, Recollections 2.5” Circle Punch, Finnabair Mechanicals “Winged,” Prima Quick Dry Fluid Chalk Ink “Tin Can,” Hobby Lobby July 4th Carded Twine, Stamperia Cosmos Stamps (WTKCCR05), Tim Holtz idea-ology “Small Talk,” Finnabair Heavy Gesso, Sisal, Cheesecloth, Liquitex Clear Gesso, FabriTac, Art Glitter Glue, E6000

May 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge-Beach Bottle

20200527_063247-WMHey, all! I have a beach themed bottle I made for the May 2020 Moodboard Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place! It had been a while since I completed a project that wasn’t Design Team related, and since May was going good for me & having ideas, I was able to squeeze one in!

I just absolutely loved the colors of the moodboard, and even though I’m not a fan of going to the beach, I do love looking at beach elements. All the beauty, none of the sand!

I used a lot of Prima/Finnabair pastes and paints, a couple of Tim Holtz Distress Paints, and one Vicki Boutin paint, even though I’m not sure it’s noticeable anymore!

The shells came from a variety of sources – some I bought, some I’m not entirely sure where they came from.

The flowers are 49 & Market, the chipboard is actually Beautiful Board from ReneaBouquets, as is the final details of beads and butterflies!

Below the video you’ll find the moodboard.

I went into this project not knowing exactly where it was going, or how I was going to get there, but I did record what I was doing, so there is a process video to go along with this post!

moodboard-mmp-5-2020

Awesome moodboard, right? How could anyone resist using those corals and pinks!?!?

20200527_062621-WM

20200527_062616-WM

20200527_062706-WM

It took a lot of layers, but I eventually got the look I wanted! So many textures on the bottle! Some from the crackle paste, some the result of what happens when gesso gets extra wet on glass! You can still see the stripes I made, even though this wasn’t my original plan, I am still happy!

20200527_063204-wm

As you’ll see in the photos below, the microbeads are actually gold. I didn’t notice the color got distorted so much during editing!

Here are some more close-ups:

20200527_062514-WM

20200527_062735-WM

As a final note, I want to say I would not recommend heating up a sealed glass bottle for long periods of time! Besides the fact that it gets hot, you are increasing the internal pressure! I had a lot of “heat gun enough to stop runs,” followed by periods of cooling and air drying!

Thank you for checking out my project!! Don’t forget to watch the process video to see how I stacked all my layers of mediums!

Products used:

Finnabair: Heavy Gesso, White Crackle Texture Paste, Paper Texture Paste, Sparks Paint “Phoenix Feather,” Metallique Paint “White Pearl,” Patina Effect Paste “Blue,” Texture Fantasy Pastes “Blue Green” & “Fire Orange,” Rust Effect Paste “Lavender,” and Liquid Acrylic Paint “Burnt Sienna,” 49 & Market: Garden Seeds “Sea Breeze” (it was a partial pack), & Blossom Blends (Technically the “Bluebell” & ‘”Linen” Packages, but I only used the bamboo looking pieces), Distress Paint: “Abandoned Coral” & “Picked Raspberry,” Vicki Boutin: “Sugared Strawberry” Paint, ReneaBouquets: Beautiful Board – Bubbles, Beautiful Beads – Iridisent “Mermaid Tails,” Gold Glass Microbeads, & Magical Miniatures, Double Sided Printed Butterflies “Memory Keeper,” Brea Reese Texture Pebbles, Tim Holtz Mini Snips, FabriTac, Ranger Glossy Accents, JudiKins Diamond Glaze, Hobby Shells & other misc. shells, Ranger Heat-It heat gun

Tres Jolie Kit Club-iNSD 2020 Challenge-Masculine Layout

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog! Here are some more photos and a video of the project I did for Rae’s “Masculine Layout” challenge, sponsored by the Tres Jolie Kit Club, for International Scrapbooking Day (iNSD)!

To recap, the challenge was to create a masculine layout that included stenciling and chipboard, plus a bonus for using flowers! I used four stencils, I have a piece of chipboard from the May scrapbooking kit and some Grungeboard from my stash, and I got the flowers on…something that isn’t always easy with a “masculine” layout! Plus, and I like to think my subconscious was helping me out here, my layout fits this months sketch challenge (with the sketch rotated 180°, shown below).

Check out my video to see what I did!

I layered my stenciling on top of each other before topping with my Grungeboard chevrons! With all the stenciling, there was already so much going on that I opted to keep it relatively simple around the photo.
DSC_0010-FRAMED DSC_0014-FRAMED
I created the colors I wanted for both of the texture pastes using the paints from the Mixed Media kit & items from my stash (see video for full details!) The chevrons were painted with just simple black gesso (from the Mixed Media kit! to keep them nice and matte!
DSC_0008-FRAMED DSC_0013-FRAMED
Getting flowers on a masculine layout isn’t always easy, but I dug into my stash and pulled out pack of neutral flowers. I don’t know how long I’ve owned those Tim Holtz Framed Words, but I found a place for “Adventure” with this layout!

I hope that you were able to join us over at Tres Jolie for the iNSD challenges! I also hope that this layout gave you an idea of what can be done with items from the kits this month, and with the sketch!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–February Sketch Inspiration

Hi All! I’m back with one last project this month for the Tres Jolie Kit Club! A layout of me using the sketch from this month’s challenge as inspiration!

Here I am, a little four year old just hanging around!

After coating the papers in gesso, I stamped, stenciled, and inked before adding the embellishments and photo.

My final touch was to cover the photo then use a paintbrush to splatter and drop some “Black Soot” Distress paint on the whole project.
