Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Mixed Media Kit-*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end, I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0019-FRAMED

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

DSC_0016-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you the junk journal I created using this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit from the Tres Jolie Kit Club. I had such a blast making this journal, and even though I didn’t originally intend to kill the kit, as I kept going it became a personal challenge to see if I could get everything in!

DSC_0064-FRAMED

For the video I put the flip-through in at the beginning, then followed it up with the process. I hope you take a peek at it and enjoy it! Below the video I have added a few photos of the finished journal.

Video:

DSC_0065-FRAMED DSC_0071-FRAMED

I used the new Tim Holtz color, “Speckled Egg,” throughout the journal. It went beautifully with the Stamperia papers that came in this months kit. For the resin pieces I used some of the “Speckled Egg” oxide and embossing glaze, and some “Gathered Twig” Distress Crayon.

I pieced together the smaller “left-over” pieces to cover the “manila” colored tags that came in the kit and added some string from my stash.

DSC_0078-FRAMED DSC_0089-FRAMED

I cut out the ATC sized cards from the paper and attached them to one side of the popcorn bag that came in my kit! (Your bag may be different) I turned the two music prints into envelopes and added them in, and peeking out of this one is a little notebook I made from the largest left-over piece I had and some standard notebook paper.

The final page and inside of the back cover, which contains a flip out.

I hope you enjoyed this project and had a chance to see my process video, most of it is sped up, but I do stop to explain in quite a few areas! Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July Mixed Media Kit-Use Your Wings

Hey, all!

Welcome back to my blog. Today I’m bringing you my final project for this month using the second transparent gear from A.B. Studio that came in the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s July Mixed Media kit, along with the alcohol inks from the kit and some items from my stash.

DSC_0100-FRAMED

For this project I really wanted to showcase the transparent nature of that A.B. Studio gear so I used a gel medium to add some texture while retaining the transparency. Check out the video below to see the whole process as I was doing it!

Video:

DSC_0103-FRAMED

I really wanted a ton of texture on my gear, so in addition to the stenciling I have some sisel and some texture beads.

DSC_0102-FRAMED

I used the “Sunshine Yellow,” and “Sunset Orange” alcohol inks in the area where I would be placing the cluster.

DSC_0110-FRAMED

I used clear embossing power on some of the cut-out pieces, then used the “Purple Twilight” alcohol ink and the “Snow Cap” Mixative to add some color to the mushroom tops and some of the flower clusters. When I sprayed the ink with some rubbing alcohol I just let it bleed out how it wanted. I didn’t dry to clean it up or move it.

DSC_0111-FRAMED

On a few of the other embossed, cut-out pieces I used some of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0109-FRAMED

I think the olive green on the butterfly and words was the perfect complementary color to use with the three colors of alcohol inks that came in this month’s kit.

DSC_0105-FRAMED

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie, I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I hope to see you again soon!

Mixed Media Place-June 2020 Challenge-Green Dragon

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you an altered hoop I made for the June 2020 Challenge over at Mixed Media Place. I didn’t use a traditional embroidery hoop for this project, I just happened to have, what I believe was, an old Tri-Chem® hoop. It conveniently came with a metal insert, so I had a nice sturdy surface to work on!

DSC_0030-WM

My original idea for this project looked nothing like what came about; I hadn’t even considered a dragon originally! I had originally planned to go with a nature theme, but when I was looking through my chipboard to see what types of leaves I might have, I came across the dragon, thought, “Hey! Dragons can be green…,” and from there I just went with it. Check out my process video below the Mixed Media Place Challenge Board to see how it all went together.

Now, for a few close-up photos:

DSC_0032-WM

DSC_0038-WM

The chipboard dragon from Creative Embellishments was what started my inspiration for my project.

I used two Prima/Finnabair paints on the dragon, Opal Magic “Green-Gold” and Sparks “Fairy Wings.”

DSC_0035-WM

DSC_0031-WM

It wasn’t a full pack of flowers, but I hadn’t used very many of the 49 & Market “Emerald Isle” previously; this project finished my pack off.

I love all of Finnabair’s Rust Effect Pastes in their original colors, but this project called for a little sparkle to be added to them, so I watered down the Opal Magic paint and let it separate and pool at will.

DSC_0033-WM

DSC_0043-WM

I used a mix of Brea Reese Texture Pebbles and some (very) micro glass beads at final accents.

Here you can see just how VERY micro those yellow glass microbeads are.

DSC_0034-WM

DSC_0044-WM

The stencil I used on the background is one I made quite a while ago in Silhouette Studio and cut with my Cameo 3 (which wasn’t easy on stencil material!) The iridescent beads are “Citrus Breeze” from ReneaBouquets.

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

DSC_0033-FRAMED

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

DSC_0022-FRAMED

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

DSC_0038-FRAMED

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – *Follow Along With Us* – July Mixed Media Kit-A Day At the Beach

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my first project for the Tres Jolie Kit Club for this month using the Mixed Media Kit. Recently, we have had some requests for more detailed instructions for the projects we create, so last month we started the “Follow Along With Us” series, where each month we will focus on a different kit and create a project using only items from that kit, staple items (i.e. glues), and/or household items (ex: isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol). For this project, I created a video to follow along with and I hope I didn’t overexplain or underexplain anything!

DSC_0081-FRAMED

Because alcohol inks dry so quickly, this was a rather quick project to put together! I just grabbed up my gel medium to adhere the flowers and photo, which I mounted on some cardboard for rigidity and my rubbing alcohol, that works well as an alcohol ink blending solution.

Check out my video for the full details and process, and make it with me!

Now, how about some close-ups?

DSC_0085-FRAMED

The top of the larger flower cluster on the left of the photo. You can also see some of the blending between the three alcohol inks, and the splattering of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

DSC_0095-FRAMED

A close-up of the blending for the sky. As you can see, the splatters give a sense of depth depending on how much the “Snow Cap” reactivated the color behind it.

DSC_0097-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project and it helped you in using the items from the kit this month! Make sure you keep an eye out each month for more of our “Make It With Us” videos and/or written instructions! I’ll be back next week with my project using that beautiful art deco chipboard from A.B. Studio.

Sunset Dolphin-Lindy’s Gang June 2020 Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner of the Internet!

Today I’m bringing you an altered mirror from Dollar Tree for the Lindy’s Gang June 2020 Color Challenge!

DSC_0043-wm

I used a lot of Lindy’s Gang products just to make the three colors for the challenge! I know I only two are required, but I like trying to get everything in! The “Guten Tag Teal” Embossing Powder is the only Lindy’s product I own that was a match all on its own, I had to create the bright green and orange-ish coral, which I show in the video (below the Lindy’s Challenge board), plus I’ll add the details to the other photos on this post.

challenge-

The Lindy’s Gang Challenge Color Board.

DSC_0031-wm DSC_0033-wm
For the coral flowers, I mixed “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker, “Magical Mai Tai” Flat Magical, and “Plumeria Pink” Flat Magical powders. While the flowers were still wet, I sprinkled on “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker in the center. For the bright green flowers, I made a spray of the “Aloha Avacado” Flat Magical, but I didn’t think it was quite bright enough, so I also sprayed the flowers with “Pineapple Paradise” Flat Fabio Sprays.
DSC_0030-wm DSC_0035-wm
Fortunately, I had a few teal flowers that matched the “Guten Tag Teal” Embossing Powder I used on the ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board and in the center of the green flowers. For the frame around the mirror, I mixed the same colors I used on the coral flowers into some Liquitex Gel Medium and brushed it on. Then I spritzed it with water and sprinkled on more of the “Alpine Ice Rose” Magical Shaker.
DSC_0032-wm DSC_0036-wm
I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do with the mirror, but I didn’t want to leave it as it was, then in finally dawned on me to use my alcohol inks! For the sunset sky, which needed to match the coral, I used “Sunset Orange” and “Flamingo.” For the water, which needed to match the teal, I used “Patina,” and to make my wave caps I used the “Pearl” mixative. I made a stencil from some scrap cardstock and a cut file from the Silhouette Store (ID# 297497) and used Nuvo Embellishment Mousse “Black Ash” to create the dolphin.

DSC_0024-wm

And there you have it. I used a simple mirror from Dollar Tree and spruced it up using a lot of Lindy’s Gang products!

Thank you for joining me here in my corner!!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-June 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Altered Box

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my third, Tres Jolie Kit Club, Mixed Media Kit project of June, an altered box. I’ve been keeping this box around since I ate the candy that was in it back in December. I knew I’d eventually find a way I wanted to use it!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

It took me building up a few layers of mediums to get the look I wanted, check out the video below to see how it all (finally!) came together.

DSC_0005-FRAMED DSC_0006-FRAMED

To the lid of the box, I added some ReneaBouquets Beautiful Board & “Candy” (flatbacks), cabochons, resin flowers from my stash, and some of the glass glitter that had come in the April 2020 Mixed Media Kit. For the roses, I used Lindy’s Magical Powder to give them their color, and the Gilding Polish on the cabochons.

DSC_0009-FRAMED

You can see how I made a double crackle effect by layering some Tim Holtz “Crazing” Distress Medium (from my stash) on top of the Cosmic Shimmer Crackle Paste from this month’s kit. Then, to really bring out the “Crazing” cracks, I rubbed in some of the Cosmic Shimmer Metallic Gilding Polish from the kit.

DSC_0008-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this project, and that it gave you some ideas of what the mediums can do that came with this month’s kit! I’ll see you again in July!

Hello Spring-June 2020 More Than Words Challenge-Hello and Doors & Windows

Hi, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

It took me three different background attempts to finally get this all together. This was one of those projects where I had an idea, but I was having trouble getting it from my head to my hands. I finally succeeded though, and I have my layout for the June Challenge (Hello and Doors & Windows) on the More Than Words blog.

DSC_0027-WM

This month I added the word part of the challenge right to the photo with my title. The photo is very representative of “hello spring” because I took it in March 2019 when I was walking to my mailbox one afternoon. My driveway is a half-mile long, and up until I came to where this bush is it had still been a rather drab walk with all the trees still winter brown. Then I got to this bush, with its white flowers blooming and butterflies fluttering all about! Spring was telling me hello! For the “Doors & Windows” part of the challenge, I used some window chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments, coated in “Orange Blossom” embossing powder from Ranger, and placed them in my clusters.

(Below the More Than Words Challenge image, you’ll find a little process video and a few close-ups.)

06 June - Hello & Doors and Windows

DSC_0035-WM DSC_0049-WM

I wanted to add some texture, but I didn’t want it to necessarily “stand out” so I opted to use colors similar to the papers I was using.

DSC_0046-WM DSC_0052-WM

I love the “Dreamland” collection from A.B. Studio, and most of this layout is made up of papers and cut-apart pieces from it. The only pieces from “Vintage Elements 1/2” are the black and white roses, which I think added just enough “separation” between the elements cut from “Dreamland.”

DSC_0060-WM DSC_0043-WM

I love texture so I added texture pebbles, glass microbeads, sequins, and some cabochons. I also splattered some “Spun Sugar” Distress Oxide on the layout (I love that the Oxides can be used on light and dark backgrounds!).

I hope you enjoyed this project! Thank you for joining me in my little corner!!
