Spring Butterfly Canvas-March 2021 MMP Mood Board Challenge

Hey, all! Look at me, I’m back! After having to take a little bit of a hiatus, I have managed to put a project together! It felt good to get paint stuck to me again. And, if we’re being honest, I really missed the smell of my Finnabair waxes!

For my first project to bring me back into the fray, I have a Spring Butterfly Canvas for the March 2021 Mixed Media Place Challenge. The canvas and doily are from a couple of years ago that was originally supposed to be something Christmas-y, but it failed. After the failure, I decided to coat the whole thing in Kilz spray primer and set the canvas aside until inspiration struck. That inspiration finally struck, over two years later! LOL!

I was worried I would have somehow forgotten everything I’ve learned over the years during my hiatus, but I’m happy to report I was able to access the creative storage in my brain and get this put together. Check out my process in the video below:

Check out this beautiful mood board for the challenge! It really got me in the mood for spring!

Now, how about some close-ups!

Here you can see I added some shine to the green lily using some of my Unicorn’s Hair Sparks paint. I didn’t add the Sparks to all of the flowers, I kept it to the green, white, & off-white flowers.

Here you can see how those gold microbeads really set off the wing! I love how my butterfly came out! So many layers of paint and wax! I was worried I wasn’t going to get it “just right,” until I came across my beads!

Here is the whole butterfly! You can see how the color changes depending on the light. Even though this photo was taken straight on, with the light coming from the right, the left wing shows up as more purple, and the shine really stands out!

Look at those beautiful glass beads! I didn’t need a lot and I love how they give an almost magical look to the piece!

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! Hopefully, it won’t be too long before I have another project up for you!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Moodboard-Scrapbooking Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you a rather thick junk journal I created for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using the papers, frames, tag, and resin pieces that came in this month’s scrapbooking kit.

I was inspired by Wendy’s Journal Adventure’s “The Caring Gardner Botanical Journal.” I don’t even know what I was looking for when I came across the video, but I loved how the first and last signatures were dedicated to pockets and flip-outs with the middle signatures dedicated to the pages to write on; I had always seen journals with the pocket and flip-out pages intermingled with the writing pages. I also loved the corrugated cardboard she used on the inside covers, which reminded me I had some KaiserCraft Corrugated Sheets from the October 2019 Tres Jolie Scrapbooking Kit. Check out a few photos, found below the flip-through video, to see how some of the pages are laid out.

Tres Jolie Kit Club–March 2020 Moodboard– “Emerald Queen” Junk Journal

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I have an example project, a junk journal, for this months moodboard challenge for the Tres Jolie Kit Club!

I was in love with the “Emerald Queen” line by AB Studio that came in this months scrapbooking kit as soon as I saw the photos! And when I saw the books on the moodboard, I knew I’d be making a junk journal! And it was serendipitous that the green fabric image (above the clocks) fit with some sari silk I had already prepared for use! Below the moodboard image I have two video links, one is a flip-through of the completed journal and the other is a process video.

“Emerald Queen” Junk Journal Process

On the spine I let some of the fibers from The Paper Studio peek through the zipper, then added a Prima Vintage Trinket! I added some “Sage” Embossing Powder by Ranger to the chipboard from the kit and added it to the layers on my cover.

Here you can see the many various laces I used along the edges of the pages!

I layered some scraps of fabric, lace, and a zipper from an old jacket with items from this months kit on the cover, “holding” them in place with clips from my stash!

The band I used to hold the junk journal closed is a headband! I found packages of them on clearance one time and it suddenly dawned on me that they would be great for junk journals!
