Spring Perfect-April 2021 MTW Main Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

Today I’m bringing you a layout I did for the April 2021  More Than Words Challenge, “Perfect & Sketch.”

20210417_095753-EDIT-WM

To create this layout I used Mintay’s “Secret Place” paper pack, a perfect fit for a soft, spring layout! Spring is one of my favorite seasons, the flowers bloom, birds are singing, and the Earth is waking up. Plus, it’s not too hot or cold! I love this photo, courtesy Fielder Photography. I think it captures spring perfectly with the fresh green and new flowers blooming. Check out my video below to see what I did.

To create the stitched background rectangle seen on the sketch, I used my “Ornate Lace” Finnabair stencil, some TCW texture paste, and Tim Holtz’s “Kitsch Flamingo” Embossing Glaze, then added stitching using a gold metallic thread.

20210417_095934-EDIT-WM 20210417_095829-EDIT-WM

In the photo on the left, you can see some of the splattering I did using Tim Holtz’s “Kitsch Flamingo” & “Shabby Shutters” Distress Oxide Sprays. The photo on the right gives a nice close up of the various elements I used in my clusters; cut apart pieces from the paper pack, printed beautiful board from ReneaBouquets, some gold Thickers leaves, and some beads.

20210417_095926-EDIT-WM 20210417_095918-EDIT-WM

I didn’t “plan” where my beads were going to be glued down, I just sprinkled them on, let them roll into place, and then went back and glued them down; maybe only fine-tuning them a bit. For my title I cracked open a couple of alpha packages I’ve had FOR-EV-ER! and stuck them down into place. I really love overlapping title words when I get the chance!

I must say, I am very happy with how this layout came together and I hope you enjoyed checking it out as much as I enjoyed making it!

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! See you again soon!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Pen/Pencil/Paintbrush Holders

Hey, all! Welcome back to the my blog!

Today I’m bring you my third mixed media project of the month for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from this month’s Mixed Media kit. I decided to add a bit of decoration to my craft room by turning two cans into pen-pencil-paintbrush holders.

DSC_0109-FRAMED

My new paintbrush holders went together quickly and easily; most of the time I spent on these was dry time! Check out my video below to see how I did it all.

DSC_0113-FRAMED

I, carefully, glued the mould pieces to my cans immediately after forming them (using some E6000) to make sure they were molded to the curve of the can.

DSC_0115-FRAMED DSC_0142-FRAMED

I grabbed up some crackle paint (from a previous Tres Jolie kit) and gave everything a nice coating. I didn’t add mould pieces all the way around my cans because, in my case, they are going to be against a wall, so I didn’t think it was necessary, but you can decorate your cans however works best for your style!

DSC_0118-FRAMED

I sprayed the three Distress Oxide Sprays on the cans, and after they were dry I used some Krylon Workable Fixatif before adding the Liquid Acrylic Paint and using the Lindy’s Magical Powder on the mould pieces.

As I mentioned in the video, I did a final seal on my cans using some Mod Podge Matte Acrylic Sealer, and I have since ran my cans under water and “scrubbed” them with my hands. I am happy to report that nothing came off!

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you an idea of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay Crafty, friends!

Fairy Moonlight – July 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

Today I’m bringing you a little piece I did for the July 2020 Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place blog.

DSC_0013-wm-resized

Looking at the moodboard for this month I was immediately drawn to the mushrooms. I absolutely adore mushrooms in art. In food, I can tolerate them (except those white “button” mushrooms, Ewww), but in art I absolutely love them! In addition to the mushrooms, all the colors kept making me think of sunsets and the dusk of early evening. Check out my process video, which can be found under the Mixed Media Place Moodboard!

I have quite a few mediums making up my background; a couple of Jacquard Paints topped with three different Distress Oxide Sprays. For my moon and stars, I used two Prima/Finnabair paints, one of which is “Unicorn’s Hair,” which was also used for my splatter!

DSC_0019-wm-resized

I really loved the idea of just having a fairy silhouette looking at the night sky, so I grabbed up my Creative Embellishments chipboard, added some black gesso, but by the end, I decided to add a coat of “Charcoal Black” Matte Wax.

DSC_0017-wm-resized

I used “Burnt Sienna” Liquid Acrylic Paint to give some shadowy depth behind the mushrooms.

DSC_0012-wm-resized

To add a little extra to the moon and stars I lightly brushed on some “White Gold” Metallique Wax, and to give a little extra shine to the mushroom caps I added some “Heather Hills” wax on the front curves (if that makes sense!)

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August Mixed Media Kit-Altered Paintbrush

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

This week I have used items from the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media kit, along with items from my stash, to create this altered paintbrush.

DSC_0106-FRAMED

I used the Prima Modeling Material with the Finnabair Mould to create the bust and flourishes, which I “painted” with the Lindy’s “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder, and after I prepared my paintbrush I used the Distress Oxide Sprays to add the background color. Check out my process video to see how everything came together!

Video:

DSC_0113-FRAMED DSC_0126-FRAMED

I used some Prima/Finnabair Crackle Texture Paste on my background (from my stash) with a couple of stencils I have collected from previous Tres Jolie kits! After the paste had dried I used the three Distress Oxide Sprays from this month’s kit to give the background some color. Plus, I finished off two packs of flowers, both of which I had been hoarding from previous Tres Jolie kits.

DSC_0109-FRAMED DSC_0108-FRAMED

I love the mould that came in the kit this month, and I especially love that it is an item I will be able to keep in my stash to use over and over again! Some items, like the glitter I sprinkled about from a previous Tres Jolie kit, will (eventually) run out, but that mould will be in my stash forever!

DSC_0105-FRAMED

I hope you enjoyed this altered paintbrush and I hope it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media kit! Stay crafty!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Mixed Media Kit-*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end, I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0019-FRAMED

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

DSC_0016-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

Mixed Media Place-June 2020 Challenge-Green Dragon

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you an altered hoop I made for the June 2020 Challenge over at Mixed Media Place. I didn’t use a traditional embroidery hoop for this project, I just happened to have, what I believe was, an old Tri-Chem® hoop. It conveniently came with a metal insert, so I had a nice sturdy surface to work on!

DSC_0030-WM

My original idea for this project looked nothing like what came about; I hadn’t even considered a dragon originally! I had originally planned to go with a nature theme, but when I was looking through my chipboard to see what types of leaves I might have, I came across the dragon, thought, “Hey! Dragons can be green…,” and from there I just went with it. Check out my process video below the Mixed Media Place Challenge Board to see how it all went together.

Now, for a few close-up photos:

DSC_0032-WM

DSC_0038-WM

The chipboard dragon from Creative Embellishments was what started my inspiration for my project.

I used two Prima/Finnabair paints on the dragon, Opal Magic “Green-Gold” and Sparks “Fairy Wings.”

DSC_0035-WM

DSC_0031-WM

It wasn’t a full pack of flowers, but I hadn’t used very many of the 49 & Market “Emerald Isle” previously; this project finished my pack off.

I love all of Finnabair’s Rust Effect Pastes in their original colors, but this project called for a little sparkle to be added to them, so I watered down the Opal Magic paint and let it separate and pool at will.

DSC_0033-WM

DSC_0043-WM

I used a mix of Brea Reese Texture Pebbles and some (very) micro glass beads at final accents.

Here you can see just how VERY micro those yellow glass microbeads are.

DSC_0034-WM

DSC_0044-WM

The stencil I used on the background is one I made quite a while ago in Silhouette Studio and cut with my Cameo 3 (which wasn’t easy on stencil material!) The iridescent beads are “Citrus Breeze” from ReneaBouquets.

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project!

Hello Spring-June 2020 More Than Words Challenge-Hello and Doors & Windows

Hi, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

It took me three different background attempts to finally get this all together. This was one of those projects where I had an idea, but I was having trouble getting it from my head to my hands. I finally succeeded though, and I have my layout for the June Challenge (Hello and Doors & Windows) on the More Than Words blog.

DSC_0027-WM

This month I added the word part of the challenge right to the photo with my title. The photo is very representative of “hello spring” because I took it in March 2019 when I was walking to my mailbox one afternoon. My driveway is a half-mile long, and up until I came to where this bush is it had still been a rather drab walk with all the trees still winter brown. Then I got to this bush, with its white flowers blooming and butterflies fluttering all about! Spring was telling me hello! For the “Doors & Windows” part of the challenge, I used some window chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments, coated in “Orange Blossom” embossing powder from Ranger, and placed them in my clusters.

(Below the More Than Words Challenge image, you’ll find a little process video and a few close-ups.)

06 June - Hello & Doors and Windows

DSC_0035-WM DSC_0049-WM

I wanted to add some texture, but I didn’t want it to necessarily “stand out” so I opted to use colors similar to the papers I was using.

DSC_0046-WM DSC_0052-WM

I love the “Dreamland” collection from A.B. Studio, and most of this layout is made up of papers and cut-apart pieces from it. The only pieces from “Vintage Elements 1/2” are the black and white roses, which I think added just enough “separation” between the elements cut from “Dreamland.”

DSC_0060-WM DSC_0043-WM

I love texture so I added texture pebbles, glass microbeads, sequins, and some cabochons. I also splattered some “Spun Sugar” Distress Oxide on the layout (I love that the Oxides can be used on light and dark backgrounds!).

I hope you enjoyed this project! Thank you for joining me in my little corner!!

More Than Words May 2020 Challenge-Stripes & Funny

Hey, all! I’m on a roll this month! If my brain is deciding to give me ideas, who am I to argue?!?!

Today I have a layout I created for the More Than Words May 2020 Challenge, “Stripes & Funny.” The photos on the layout are not the best quality, they were taken with a phone camera…and I don’t mean a phone camera from today, I mean one from 10 years ago! That’s right, those little faces on this layout are adults now! And what’s funnier than seeing if you can stick half an orange in your mouth?

DSC_0032-WM

I really dug into the deepest, darkest corners of my stash and pulled out my Pink Paislee, “Hello Sunshine,” papers, chipboard stickers, and ephemera for this layout. As soon as I saw the striped paper in the pack, I knew I wanted to use it with those striped paper straws I received from Doreena a couple years back!

Check out this quick process video to see the construction!

In the close-ups, you can really see the splattering, and how well Distress Oxides work on a dark background! And aren’t those buttons from A Flair For Buttons the perfect touch sitting on a nest of thread?!?! (The thread technique I picked up from Missy Whidden a few years ago. I found it to be absolutely brilliant!)

Thank you for checking out this project, I hope you enjoyed it!
