Tres Jolie Kit Club–March 2022 Mood board-Scrapbooking & Mixed Media Kits

Hey, y’all! Welcome back to the Corner Scraps blog!

This week I have a mixed media canvas I made using both the March Mixed Media and Scrapbooking Kits from Tres Jolie Kit Club. The coordination between the micas and the papers was phenomenal! How could I resist using them together?!

I grabbed up a 9” x 12” canvas panel from my stash and started cutting and gluing and embossing! Check out my video to see it all come together.

Video:

Don’t be afraid to use your scissors! Chipboard, flowers, paper…nothing is immune from being cut, altered, and put back together! This project wasn’t too difficult, most of the time spent on it was spent drying or waiting for it to dry.

We have a new mood board challenge for the month. The rules are as follows:

  • You can create any type of project for the challenge.
  • You MUST say what you were inspired by.
  • You MUST include the twist in your design: OLD WORLD ELEGANCE.
  • We would love to see you USE AT LEAST ONE of Tres Jolie’s products on your projects but it isn’t required to play along.
  • It MUST be a new project.

Isn’t the mood board this month just beautiful?

Place your entries in the March 2022 challenge folder on Tres Jolie Kit Club Café Facebook page. This challenge ends on March 31st 2022 at 11:59 pm CST. All entries must be in this folder to be eligible for the prize (to have everyone eligible to win, we are limited the same winner to once every 3 months).

Now, some close-ups of the different parts of my canvas:

Mar2022-Moodboard-02 Mar2022-Moodboard-03 Mar2022-Moodboard-14

Here are some images of the mix of embossing powders I made-this month’s Ultrafine Gold, April 2021’s Patina Bronzed Copper, and my Ranger Triple Thick from my stash-put on in two layers, then “cooked” many, many times to (purposely) create some roughness and knock down some shine.

Mar2022-Moodboard-07 Mar2022-Moodboard-08 Mar2022-Moodboard-09

In addition to embossing my chipboard, I added embossing to most of the paper pieces, including the background paper, to give some extra texture and interest to the canvas.

Mar2022-Moodboard-05

I used the lightest rose mica powder, mixed with the Liquid Color Fluid Medium and watered down, on my background paper. I also used the darkest rose mica, the (I think) next to lightest rose, and both green micas as paints to really make the background flowers and leaves pop as seen in the video.

Mar2022-Moodboard-06 Mar2022-Moodboard-10

This main cluster is the biggest reason I am going to wait a week to give my canvas the coat of Triple Thick Clear Glaze. There are so many layers and “globs” of gel mediums and lots of water, and more gel medium! I don’t want moisture getting stuck behind the glaze! I have so many layers of paper and liquid matte medium I don’t know if the moisture would make it out through the back! Better safe than soggy and foggy!!

Mar2022-Moodboard-11 Mar2022-Moodboard-12

I didn’t set out to use these beads, I was just digging through my stash when I cam across the piece of costume jewelry and the bags of pearl beads. I don’t even know where everything came from, but I thought it was fortunate that I had those dusty rose colored beads to match the papers and micas! (I forgot to mention it in the video, but I used E6000 on the necklace.)

The Burnt Sienna Liquid Acrylic from last month’s Mixed Media Kit is the perfect color to add some shadowy and vintage effects. Don’t forget, if you decide to use a heat gun to “play” with your pink Prima flowers, they start curling up quickly!

ReneaBouquets Upcycle Challenge-August 2021

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Over at Scrapbook.com, ReneaBouquet’s hosted an “Upcycle” Challenge, and I decided my newly broken pair of scissors would be the perfect item to upcycle! I grabbed up a 9×12 canvas board, a bunch of mediums, chipboard alphas, some Finnabair Mould pieces, my ReneaBouquet’s and got going!

wm-20210821_123746

Check out my process video to see how everything came about!

Process Video:

Before I got too carried away, I remembered to take a photo of my broken scissors! I had probably owned these scissors 20 years or so, so they had a good run, but they decided to retire themselves! (How do I know how long I’ve owned them? Because I remember their original purpose! They use to be my fabric scissors!)

wm-20210815_142159

In addition to the Finnabair stencil, I added some “Bee Hive” Beautiful Bits to my background for some added texture.

wm-20210821_123506

This project was rather relaxing because I didn’t have a plan. I just started grabbing items, grabbing mediums, and seeing where everything would take me! It took a few layers of mediums to get the look I had originally envisioned, but I enjoyed the process!

wm-20210821_123457

I don’t know if I’ve ever said it, but I am absolutely IN LOVE with Finnabair’s waxes!! The colors, the finishes, the coverage…EVERYTHING!

wm-20210821_123440

You can see how many different Finnabair mould pieces I have on here! And, like her waxes, I love her moulds! I was super excited when she came out with her “dark” line, and I was even more excited when I realized I could get some use out of a few of those “dark” pieces on this canvas!

wm-20210821_123447

wm-20210821_123542

ReneaBouquet roses and Beautiful Beads were the final touch for this canvas. The beads coordinate with the background colors, and those roses are the perfect contrasting color.

Thank you for joining me in my little corner! I hope you enjoyed today’s project!

Spring Butterfly Canvas-March 2021 MMP Mood Board Challenge

Hey, all! Look at me, I’m back! After having to take a little bit of a hiatus, I have managed to put a project together! It felt good to get paint stuck to me again. And, if we’re being honest, I really missed the smell of my Finnabair waxes!

For my first project to bring me back into the fray, I have a Spring Butterfly Canvas for the March 2021 Mixed Media Place Challenge. The canvas and doily are from a couple of years ago that was originally supposed to be something Christmas-y, but it failed. After the failure, I decided to coat the whole thing in Kilz spray primer and set the canvas aside until inspiration struck. That inspiration finally struck, over two years later! LOL!

photostudio_1617569837320-WM

I was worried I would have somehow forgotten everything I’ve learned over the years during my hiatus, but I’m happy to report I was able to access the creative storage in my brain and get this put together. Check out my process in the video below:

Check out this beautiful mood board for the challenge! It really got me in the mood for spring!

Now, how about some close-ups!

photostudio_1617569948905-WM

Here you can see I added some shine to the green lily using some of my Unicorn’s Hair Sparks paint. I didn’t add the Sparks to all of the flowers, I kept it to the green, white, & off-white flowers.

photostudio_1617569992720-WM

Here you can see how those gold microbeads really set off the wing! I love how my butterfly came out! So many layers of paint and wax! I was worried I wasn’t going to get it “just right,” until I came across my beads!

photostudio_1617570045670-WM

Here is the whole butterfly! You can see how the color changes depending on the light. Even though this photo was taken straight on, with the light coming from the right, the left wing shows up as more purple, and the shine really stands out!

photostudio_1617569902387-WM

Look at those beautiful glass beads! I didn’t need a lot and I love how they give an almost magical look to the piece!

Thank you for joining me here in my little corner! Hopefully, it won’t be too long before I have another project up for you!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Mixed Media Kit-*Follow Along With Us*

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my “Follow Along With Us” project for the month using the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August Mixed Media Kit. Now, I’m not going to lie, this project fought back! This was just one of those times that I was having problems getting my hands to do what my brain was picturing. As you’ll discover in the video, in the end, I had to do a voice-over to explain what I did, but I’m rather pleased with the end result!

DSC_0013-FRAMED

The stems are actually a rather happy accident. I didn’t originally plan for them to be “broken,” but when they came apart I realized I rather liked the look. Now, as I’ll also note in the video, I would paint the “Bayou Boogie Gold” Magical Powder on my mushrooms and stems before adding them to the canvas. If you do (and don’t add the “Antique Linen” first) they will match the flowers. If you do it the same way I did in the video then your mushrooms will look like mine here. When I was working on it I hadn’t planned to have them gold originally, but after I got them glued down I decided to make them pop off the canvas more! (Have I mentioned this project just wanted to fight me every step of the way? LOL!)

Check out my video and follow along!

DSC_0017-FRAMED DSC_0019-FRAMED

You don’t need a mould to use modeling material! I formed my stems and mushrooms by hand! I didn’t try to make them the same or perfect, I just played around with the modeling material until I liked what I made. (Which isn’t in the video due to this project fighting me the whole time! If I remember correctly, I thought my camera was running, but I was mistaken. Sorry!!)

DSC_0016-FRAMED DSC_0018-FRAMED DSC_0020-FRAMED

At some point in time, although I can’t say when exactly after everything this project put me through, I decided to cluster all the flowers from the mould together where the mushroom stems intersected!

Even though the acrylic sealer had an effect on the Oxide Spray, I can tell you that had not happened to me before, so I am thinking I should have set it aside longer to dry. I’m not disappointed, just surprised. And sometimes surprises work out!

I hope you enjoyed this project and that it gave you an idea or two about how to use the items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! Thank you for joining us and I’ll see you again soon!

In addition to items from this month’s mixed media kit (from previous Tres Jolie kits), I used:

*Little Birdie Black Gesso, Liquitex Matte Super Heavy Gel, Mod Podge Matte Acrylic Sealer

Tres Jolie Kit Club-May 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Butterfly Reels

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog! Today I am bringing you my “Butterfly Reels” project where I used three of the VHS reels, the mediums, and the package of Prima Mechanicals, along with items from my stash, to build this steampunk piece!DSC_0008-FRAMED

I am very happy with how this piece came out! I love mixing the patina and rust effect with the non-aged look of the reels and flowers! Check out the video to see the whole process!

Video:

In the above photo you can see the ripples created by the paint pour!

DSC_0027-FRAMED

I love Prima’s Rust Effect Paste, and I’m glad I had some on-hand to use with the Mechanicals from this month’s kit! Plus, those butterflies were what I had left from the March Mixed Media Kit!

DSC_0029-FRAMED

I knew parts of my chipboard would overhang, so to give it some extra stability I used “Prima Sculpture Medium” before adding the Rust Effect Paste!

DSC_0031-FRAMED

The longest parts of this project were all the drying times, so I would just set it aside while the glues and mediums dried so I could work on other projects! My final touch was adding some Teal Glass Beads from ReneaBouquets on top of each stack of Mechanicals!

Tres Jolie Kit Club–March Mixed Media Kit-Canvas

Hey, everyone! Welcome back to my blog! For my second project this month using items from the March Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club, I created a grung-y canvas using items from the kit on a canvas I had previously purchased at Dollar Tree!

DSC_0001-FRAMED

This canvas was quick and easy! I had it together in a day (the paint dried rather quickly!) and just set it aside to let the glues and 13@rts Gel Medium from the kit dry! See how I put it all together here!

Video:

With just a few items from my stash, I created a little décor piece in one day! (And I never finish a project in one day!!)

DSC_00011-FRAMED

DSC_0006-FRAMED

DSC_0009-FRAMED

After I coated the canvas in black gesso, I layered some torn pages from an old book and a piece of patterned paper on the canvas then used a palette knife to create the broad strokes of paint. Without adding gesso first, I put a single layer of the same paint on the brick chipboard from the kit.

DSC_0005-FRAMED

After the paint dried I added my transparency piece using the gel medium from the kit.

DSC_0007-FRAMED

Still using the gel medium, I put my flower clusters together, added my butterflies, and fussy cut leaves from parts of the transparency to add to my clusters.

Tres Jolie Kits-December Mixed Media Kit-Canvas

Hey, all! I’m up on the blog today using the December Mixed Media Kit! For this project I used the canvas, mediums, stencil, and drywall tapes from the kit!

DSC_0039-FRAMED

I don’t often work with realistic images, but I really do like the print on the Stamperia line! I layered the rice paper over the matching patterned paper, and one eye didn’t quite line up right, but, to me, I think it gives an other-worldly vibe!

Process Video:

DSC_0047-FRAMED

Here you can see some of the crazing effect, as well as a closer look at the TCW stencil with the Lindy’s Gang, “Treasure Island Aqua,” Moon Shadow Mist.

DSC_0044-FRAMED

I layered the paper and rice paper from my stash with the mediums and drywall tapes from the kit to create a very vintage, very aged effect.
