Tres Jolie Kit Club–Anything Book–October 2021 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

For my final Tres Jolie Kit Club project of October, I’m bringing you an “Anything Book.” I call it an anything book because you could easily use it as a mini-album, mini art journal, mini notebook, etc. Personally, I really wanted a mini art journal with pockets and flip-outs.

FRAMED-20210919_173350

My inspiration for this project came from Pinkstrawberryz “No Binding Easy Mini Album.” It was just one of those “You might like” recommendations that randomly popped up on YouTube, so I decided to have a look! As soon as I watched the video I had ideas brewing! Check out my video to see how I put my Anything Book together. (Below the video you will find photos of the inside and the measurements for my pages.)

Here is a look at some of the pages I started preparing:

FRAMED-20211003_110402 FRAMED-20211003_110424

After my book was together I used clear and white gessoes to prepare the pages. With my gesso dry, I was then able to start laying down mediums to prepare working backgrounds. I just grabbed up various paints and started laying them down! To make the book cover, I grabbed up some burlap trim, cut it to length, and stitched it in place during assembly.

FRAMED-20211003_110443 FRAMED-20211003_110455

Some areas have acrylic paint and some have watercolors. I started drawing on a couple of the pages—flowers in some places, and this face above. I also grabbed a few pens and outlined the flowers from the paper pack.

FRAMED-20211003_110513 FRAMED-20211003_110527

I didn’t always use a brush with my paints, some times I just used a palette knife to scrape it on! I also grabbed up some of my Dina Wakely Scribble Sticks and added some…well…scribbles! I have a short flip-though of my mini art journal (as far as it had been “finished” at the time of filming!) over on my Instagram post for this project.

Measurements (in order of page in book):

Tres Jolie Kit Club-Magnets-August 2021 Cards, Tags, & More Kit

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

This week I’m bringing you some ideas for magnets using pieces of this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit from the Tres Jolie Kit Club, along with items from my stash.

FRAMED-20210717_181045

A couple of the magnets I made using the Finnabair “Elisian Clockworks” Mould, and the rest were made from some unfinished wood drawer/door knobs. Check out my video to see how I created my magnet set!

Now for some individual photos:

These two magnets were created using the Elisian Clocks mould and some Amazing Cast Resin. I filled the mould about half way and after that half hardened, I added my magnets and finished filling the mould with more resin.

After coating my pieces with gesso, paint, and paste, I added my embellishment clusters, then a bit of gold wax for some accent.

On my drawer/door knobs I added some smaller mould pieces using paper clay, followed the same painting, embellishment, wax process as the resin magnets, but then also added some Nuvo Crystal Drops for a bit more texture on the “plain” edges.

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2021 Moodboard: “Be Happy” Mixed Media Canvas

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you my moodboard inspired project; a mixed media canvas using items from both the July Mixed Media Kit and the July Scrapbooking Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club! Pink flowers, gold veining, and butterflies were my inspiration from the moodboard, so I gathered my supplies and just went with it!

FRAMED-20210708_113200

I love moulds, so I was super excited when I saw that the Mixed Media Kit came with a fabulous Stamperia frames mould! Be sure to check out my video to see how I used the mould and how my canvas came together! (Note: Although I found it unnecessary with the Amazing Cast Resin, you can use various household products to help release the frames from the mold, such as baby powder, corn starch, cooking spray, and mica powder. Personally, I think the cooking spray is best for resins, and powders [would be] best for clays – because the resins absorb powders.)

Now for some close-ups:

FRAMED-20210708_113218

FRAMED-20210708_113343

I used the Dina Wakley paints from the Mixed Media kit on my background, baseboard doll, chipboard butterfly, and frame—along with lots of water in some areas to make the paints more translucent! I added just a touch of Vintage Gold wax to the frame details and wing edges.

FRAMED-20210708_113250

FRAMED-20210708_113354

FRAMED-20210708_113436

I brushed some gel medium along the edges of the flowers to hold the gold microbeads in place, adding just a bit of detail and texture to the flowers! Then I dug into my stash and grabbed all three of my art stone bottles (mega, regular, & mini) and started adding them on. I like to sprinkle my art stones in place before adding the Diamond Glaze—that way I can get my placement down before making it permanent.

FRAMED-20210708_113423

FRAMED-20210708_113407

As my final touch, I used a metallic gold pen from my stash to add some gold “veining” along the edges of my torn paper and to circle the epoxy dots from the kit.

I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done with items from this month’s Mixed Media and/or Scrapbooking Kits!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-December 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Ornaments

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

This week I’m bringing you some ornament ideas to make using items found in this month’s Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club and some resin from my stash.

20201122_090350-FRAMED

I did a few different color combinations for you, to give a good sampling of what can be done to fit your personal style and décor. Check out my video to see the process!

Now, how about a few close-ups?

20201122_090205-FRAMED 20201122_090215-FRAMED

I did a few different base colors. Some have black gesso under the red paint, some have white gesso under the silver or red paint, and some have the PearlEx powders mixed into the clear epoxy I used.

20201122_090435-FRAMED

After I had all my ornaments painted how I wanted, I added some of the PearlEx powders to them all.

20201122_090226-FRAMED 20201122_090427-FRAMED

After I used some acrylic spray to keep my powders in place, and I gave all my ornaments a coating of the glitter from the kit. I think these will beautifully reflect blinking Christmas lights!

Thank you for joining me at my corner! As always, I hope you enjoyed this project and it gave you some ideas of what can be done using the items found in this month’s Mixed Media kit. I’ll see you again next week!

Fairy Moonlight – July 2020 Mixed Media Place Challenge

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

Today I’m bringing you a little piece I did for the July 2020 Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place blog.

DSC_0013-wm-resized

Looking at the moodboard for this month I was immediately drawn to the mushrooms. I absolutely adore mushrooms in art. In food, I can tolerate them (except those white “button” mushrooms, Ewww), but in art I absolutely love them! In addition to the mushrooms, all the colors kept making me think of sunsets and the dusk of early evening. Check out my process video, which can be found under the Mixed Media Place Moodboard!

I have quite a few mediums making up my background; a couple of Jacquard Paints topped with three different Distress Oxide Sprays. For my moon and stars, I used two Prima/Finnabair paints, one of which is “Unicorn’s Hair,” which was also used for my splatter!

DSC_0019-wm-resized

I really loved the idea of just having a fairy silhouette looking at the night sky, so I grabbed up my Creative Embellishments chipboard, added some black gesso, but by the end, I decided to add a coat of “Charcoal Black” Matte Wax.

DSC_0017-wm-resized

I used “Burnt Sienna” Liquid Acrylic Paint to give some shadowy depth behind the mushrooms.

DSC_0012-wm-resized

To add a little extra to the moon and stars I lightly brushed on some “White Gold” Metallique Wax, and to give a little extra shine to the mushroom caps I added some “Heather Hills” wax on the front curves (if that makes sense!)

Thank you for joining me here at my little corner! I hope you enjoyed this project and I hope you’ll visit me again soon!

Stay Crafty,
C.J.

Forest Key (a Mixed Media ATC)

I don’t know if I should say I created these for the June Mixed Media Place challenge, but will be swapping them, or if it would be more accurate to say the June Mixed Media Place challenge helped me put together these ATCs for the “Favorite Product and/or Technique” category of the swap over at scrapbook.com! They both helped each other along in the end!

I love the mood board this month over at Mixed Media Place. The wonderful colors of the forest really spoke to me! I’m also participating in the ATC swap over at scrapbook.com, hosted by Marci (you can find her here and here), and was still “needing” to make my “Favorite Product and/or Technique” batch! I have a little of both on these cards! I love, love, LOVE Finnabair’s products by Prima, and I adore using her waxes, but I also love mica powders (in this case I used Lindy’s Magical Shakers), and Tim Holtz was my first designer love (I’ve been collecting Tim Holtz since shortly after I first started scrapbooking!).

(Below you can find a process video, more photos, & a product list.)

Process Video:

I think one of my favorite things about ATCs is they help me use up scraps & partial packages, plus I find them to be very freeing, even I can only fit so much on a 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ surface!
With these ATCs I didn’t cut into any new cardstock or open any new packages! In fact I finished off one of the Prima packages & the Little Birdie package in addition to getting rid of a teeny tiny bit of my vast scrap collection! (Okay, maybe not vast…it could be worse I suppose!)
Also, to make projects go faster, when I have some spare time I will make up batches of pieces from my various moulds. I can’t say I have an absolute preference of which resin to use, both of the ones used to make these keys have a purpose. Amazing Cast Resin sets up F.A.S.T!! And I mean you better have a plan of action and work in small batches! This is great when I don’t have the time to wait for the Art ‘N Glow resin to set. However, I love the Art ‘N Glow because it mixes up thinner, and I have a work time of 45 minutes! The thinner is great for the smaller moulds I have, and the longer time is better because I can pour slow and sure! (It does, however, have a 24 hour cure time.)
**Note: I’d wear gloves. The Amazing Cast Resin gets real hot, real fast (it’s best not to ask why I know this so well!). Gloves will help you peel that off quick! The Art ‘N Glow is just practically impossible to wash off with soap and water. It’s very sticky! (Again, don’t ask! LOL)
