November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media–Pumpkin Stack

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my pumpkin stack that I created as one of my Guest Design Team projects for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

27-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Décor that came in this months kit! It has a nice, smooth paste-like consistency, that can be put on with your finger or a brush straight from the container! Or, you can do as I did, and add some to a misting bottle with some of the Prima® Silver Mica Powder, also found in the November kit, and make your own shimmer-y, glimmer-y mist! I used my homemade mist on the flowers.

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit, and I couldn’t help but put a nice thick layer on my pumpkin stack after coating it with some clear gesso.

36-Framed

After my crackle paint dried I added some of the turquoise paint, trying to create an Ombre effect on the pumpkins. I then used a mesh/net bag (that the little pumpkins came in) to wrap the stack, using some jute twine at each layer.

29-Framed

I let my homemade mist soak into my flowers some, then, after they were dry, I used some gel medium to attach them to the pumpkin stack.

For the finishing touches I added some sisel fibers for some added texture, and finished them off by brushing on some Glossy Accents and a sprinkling of the glitter from this months kit!

Clipboard Calendar – ReneaBouquets November Swap on scrapbook.com

DSC_0048-WM

This month over on scrapbook.com, ReneaBouquets Design Team Member, Donna, hosted a clipboard calendar swap. This is what I made for my partner, who told me a few of his faves, which include shabby chic, greens, and purple! As soon as I had that list I knew I’d be using paper from Blue Fern Studios “Eclectic Charm” line and tons of ReneaBouquets elements!

Check out my process video to see the transformation!

November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media – Altered Paintbrush

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my altered paintbrush that I created for my Guest Design Team project for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

28-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Décor that came in this months kit! It has a nice, smooth paste-like consistency, that can be put on with your finger or a brush straight from the container; or you can water it down as I did when I added it to the brush!

Watch me here:

39-Framed

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit! I had added gesso to the paintbrush quite a few months ago, and when I put the gesso on the heart I added more, just because I had some extra.

On top of the gesso I added a nice, thick layer of the DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint. I let the crackle paint air dry before adding the turquoise Inka-Gold paint, that I watered down so it would really get into the cracks. I used a heat gun to dry the brush enough to move, but I let it finish air drying because the brush bristles can’t take too much heat!

35-Framed

I used some gel medium to attach the Prima® flowers that came in the kit this month, and before I added the heart, I used the Prima® Silver Mica Powder from the kit to make my own glimmer-y, shimmery mist that I sprayed all over the flowers and brush!

44-Framed

For the heart, after the gesso dried, I just started using my finger to rub on some of the turquoise paint. I also knew I wanted to add some of the mica powder so I sprinkled some on. In the end the paint and the mica just got mixed together with some water! Then I sprinkled more mica on it all to give it “lumps.” (All of this is probably easier to “explain” in the video!)

I let the mix air dry, which gave the water mixture time to pool, allowing the paint to create its own shading. After all of that was dried I sprayed the heart with Mod Podge Glossy Acrylic Sealer to keep the mica [lumps] from rubbing off. After the sealer had dried I, more or less, painted some Ranger Glossy Accents on the heart and gave it a light coating of the glitter from the kit.

For “timeless” I just used my fingers to rub on some of the turquoise paint straight on the chipboard (no gesso) then glued it down with some JudiKins Diamond Glaze.

November Tres Jolie Kits – Mixed Media – Altered Wings

Hello everyone! I’m up on the blog today sharing my altered wings, Guest Design Team project for Tres Jolie Kits, using the November Mixed Media Kit!

14-Framed

Before I added any mediums I separated the layers of “feathers” and used a little pair of jewelry wire wrapping pliers to add some random curls to random feathers. I didn’t have a plan, I just picked a feather and curled!

Watch me here:

20-Framed

I loved the turquoise, Inka-Gold paint from Viva Decor that came in this months kit, as you can probably tell from these wings! I found a way to use it just about everywhere! I added it to the wings, the pieces behind the flowers, and I watered it down to add to three of the kraft colored flowers from the 16 piece Prima® flower set that also came in the November Mixed Media Kit.

21-Framed

One of my favorite product types in the mixed media world is any type of “crackle” product, so I was more than happy to see the bottle of DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint in the November kit! After gluing my various Prima® Trinkets together (which I might add, all came from previous Tres Jolie kits!) with some E6000® I added a layer of gesso, let it air dry, and followed with a nice, thick layer of the DecoArt® Media™ Crackle Paint. I let the Crackle Paint air dry before adding the turquoise Inka-Gold paint.

22-Framed

I didn’t gesso the Creative Embellishments chipboard piece because I wanted the natural brown to come through to go with the rustic feel of the wings. I just used water and the silver mica powder by Prima® from the kit, to give a random coating.

25-Framed

For the final touches I gave a light dusting of the glitter from the kit by brushing on some Ranger® Glossy Accents on the Trinkets, chipboard, and flowers before sprinkling on the glitter.

19-Framed 24-Framed
23-Framed 26-Framed

27-Framed

Here you can see how I used the Inka-Gold paint to complement the patina that came on the wings. I didn’t want to cover all of the patina effect, but I also wanted the wings to “match” my flower cluster a little.

Bad Chemistry!

I saw test tubes in the mood board, I was felling like I should get ready for Halloween and I came across the test tube set at Michael’s one Sunday. The above photo was taken in a “tent” made of a blanket and jackets while using a black light to show some glow. I need to take a photo of it’s “natural” glow, but I’ll have to wait until tonight. But I really wanted to get this in the Creative Embellishments Challenge!!

    Believe (Mixed Media Project)

My project “Believe” created for the August Challenge over at the Mixed Media Place blog.

Maybe it’s the fact that I feel like summer is never going to end where I live, but the second and third photo on the top row of the Mixed Media Place mood board, at first glance, looked like ice on the foliage. I’m not exactly a person who likes being cold, and I live in a southern state, but I’ve had it with summer this year! It’s the middle of September and we are still hitting the mid-90s! Which, according to the weather last night, is a full ten degrees above average! Too, too much I tell ya!

Beside the thought of ice, I really loved the colors in general on the mood board! It’s filled with most of my favorites! But once I had blue + white + ICE!! on my mind, I had to go with it! Below the mood board you will find a process video, some more photos, and a full product list.

Letters for Linny! (ReneaBouquets "Initial" Swap)

Linny’s Initials – for the ReneaBouquets Initial Swap hosted by Donna (bonprof) over at scrapbook.com!

At the start of the swap, when we exchanged addresses, Linny told me her craft room was mauve, burgundy, pink, green, and cream, so I tried to make it so her letters would match her already established decor! (She told me they would go well in her craft room, so mission accomplished!)

Origin (Canvas) – MTW Sept. 2019

Over on the More Than Words Challenge blog this month we were tasked with finding inspiration from the word “Origins” and using the colors of our country. I love genealogy, so for me “Origins” is “where did I come from?” I love seeing faces of people I never knew and finding some resemblance!

For this project I used a photo from Ancestry.com of my great-great grandparents and eight of their ten children and maybe a grandchild (the youngest being held). Based on records on Ancestry.com, this photo is over 104 years old. (The youngest girl passed away in 1905 at only 12 years old.)
I chose this photo for this project for a couple of reasons. First, it is representative of the Cherokee I have in my family history. Besides the red, white, and blue of the United States, I (tried to) incorporate the colors of the flag of the Cherokee Nation, orange, yellow, green, and black. The following is from Cherokee.org’s FAQ page regarding the flag and seal:

The seal of the Cherokee Nation was created by an executive Act under Chief Lewis Downing in 1869. The Act calls for the seal to contain a seven-pointed star inside of a wreath of oak leaves, symbolizing the eternal flame of the Cherokee people. The star is not designated to point a specific direction, but in the original version from 1869, it rests on a single downward point. The points of the star represent the seven traditional Cherokee clans. Within the rings of the seal, the words Cherokee Nation, September 6, 1839, are included, recognizing the date of the signing of the first Cherokee Nation Constitution after relocation to Indian Territory, as well as the date of the Act of Union, uniting the Old Settlers and Eastern Immigrant Cherokees into a single Cherokee Nation government once again.

The Cherokee Flag contains the Cherokee Nation seal (see the question above for the full symbolism of the seal) in the middle with seven stars in the outer field along with a single, black star. The seven stars in the outer field represent the seven clans, and the one additional star, which is black, is to remember those who died as a result of the Trail of Tears.

In addition to the Cherokee in my history, the “white” part of this particular branch of my family has been in the United States since before it was the United States! So, there you have it! The colors of my country and what “Origins” means to me!
