Tres Jolie Kit Club-August 2020 Sketch-“This Beautiful Life”

Hey, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

This week I am bringing you a layout I created for the Tres Jolie Kit Club’s August 2020 sketch challenge using the August 2020 Scrapbooking Kit! This kit includes the scrumptious “Diva” papers from A.B. Studio, some beautiful Prima flowers and ephemera, chipboard from Dusty Attic and Scrapaholics, and a pack of resin pieces from Scrapberry.

I just adore the “Diva” Collection, and it took me a little while to figure out exactly what I was going to do with it, and to tell the truth, the large cut out bonus piece in the pack did a lot of the work for me! Check out the sketch this month, then look below it to see my process video!

To add a little texture to the background I did some water distressing along the edge of the blue-grey paper and added some light stenciling, using an Art Anthology stencil and some texture paste from my stash, where it would peek out from behind my layers.

Even though fussy cutting isn’t my most favorite part of crafting, I just had to add in some of the black & white flowers and foliage from the cut apart sheet in the “Diva” collection. For my chipboard keys and ornaments I pulled out a couple of Prima Fluid Chalks (that came in previous Tres Jolie kits) and just dabbed them on!

Those Prima flowers were the perfect complement to the “Diva” papers, and the pack of “Darcelle” ephemera gave me the piece I needed for the perfect title.

If you haven’t checked out my video yet, that photo is of my grandmother and mother, which I edited and added that sparkle filter to.

Thank you for joining us here at Tres Jolie! I hope my layout and take on this month’s sketch inspired you and gave you some ideas for your next project!

Tres Jolie Kit Club-July 2020 Mixed Media Kit-Art Deco

Hey, all! Welcome back to my corner!

Today I’m bringing you a décor piece I made for the Tres Jolie Kit Club using items from my stash, some epoxy, and the A.B. Studio chipboard & cut apart sheet and alcohol inks from this month’s kit.

DSC_0015-FRAMED

Waiting for the epoxy to set up was the most time-consuming part of this project, and the second most time-consuming part was trying to decide how to arrange the clusters. As you’ll see in the video below, I went through a few arrangements!

Video:

Before pouring the epoxy, I coated the chipboard piece with some Lindy’s Embossing Powder.

DSC_0020-FRAMED

I just added drops of the alcohol ink to the epoxy and “dragged” the color around, but didn’t mix it in thoroughly, creating the ribbons of color.

DSC_0029-FRAMED

The clusters are made up mainly of the pieces cut from the A.B Studio sheet that came in the kit, but I added some odds and ends from my stash (that I had collected from previous Tres Jolie Kits!).

As a note, the gel medium behind the cabochons eventually dried transparent!

I set this up in a window so you could see how the light shines through.

I hope you enjoyed my project this week, and that it gave you some ideas of what can be done with the alcohol inks. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for more projects from the other members of the Tres Jolie Design Team and join our Facebook Group to see other subscriber’s projects!

Tres Jolie Kit Club – *Follow Along With Us* – July Mixed Media Kit-A Day At the Beach

Hey, all! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I’m bringing you my first project for the Tres Jolie Kit Club for this month using the Mixed Media Kit. Recently, we have had some requests for more detailed instructions for the projects we create, so last month we started the “Follow Along With Us” series, where each month we will focus on a different kit and create a project using only items from that kit, staple items (i.e. glues), and/or household items (ex: isopropyl [rubbing] alcohol). For this project, I created a video to follow along with and I hope I didn’t overexplain or underexplain anything!

DSC_0081-FRAMED

Because alcohol inks dry so quickly, this was a rather quick project to put together! I just grabbed up my gel medium to adhere the flowers and photo, which I mounted on some cardboard for rigidity and my rubbing alcohol, that works well as an alcohol ink blending solution.

Check out my video for the full details and process, and make it with me!

Now, how about some close-ups?

The top of the larger flower cluster on the left of the photo. You can also see some of the blending between the three alcohol inks, and the splattering of the “Snow Cap” Mixative.

A close-up of the blending for the sky. As you can see, the splatters give a sense of depth depending on how much the “Snow Cap” reactivated the color behind it.

I hope you enjoyed this project and it helped you in using the items from the kit this month! Make sure you keep an eye out each month for more of our “Make It With Us” videos and/or written instructions! I’ll be back next week with my project using that beautiful art deco chipboard from A.B. Studio.

Hello Spring-June 2020 More Than Words Challenge-Hello and Doors & Windows

Hi, all! Welcome back to my little corner!

It took me three different background attempts to finally get this all together. This was one of those projects where I had an idea, but I was having trouble getting it from my head to my hands. I finally succeeded though, and I have my layout for the June Challenge (Hello and Doors & Windows) on the More Than Words blog.

DSC_0027-WM

This month I added the word part of the challenge right to the photo with my title. The photo is very representative of “hello spring” because I took it in March 2019 when I was walking to my mailbox one afternoon. My driveway is a half-mile long, and up until I came to where this bush is it had still been a rather drab walk with all the trees still winter brown. Then I got to this bush, with its white flowers blooming and butterflies fluttering all about! Spring was telling me hello! For the “Doors & Windows” part of the challenge, I used some window chipboard pieces from Creative Embellishments, coated in “Orange Blossom” embossing powder from Ranger, and placed them in my clusters.

(Below the More Than Words Challenge image, you’ll find a little process video and a few close-ups.)

I wanted to add some texture, but I didn’t want it to necessarily “stand out” so I opted to use colors similar to the papers I was using.

DSC_0046-WM DSC_0052-WM

I love the “Dreamland” collection from A.B. Studio, and most of this layout is made up of papers and cut-apart pieces from it. The only pieces from “Vintage Elements 1/2” are the black and white roses, which I think added just enough “separation” between the elements cut from “Dreamland.”

DSC_0060-WM DSC_0043-WM

I love texture so I added texture pebbles, glass microbeads, sequins, and some cabochons. I also splattered some “Spun Sugar” Distress Oxide on the layout (I love that the Oxides can be used on light and dark backgrounds!).

I hope you enjoyed this project! Thank you for joining me in my little corner!!
