Hey, y’all! May is drawing to a close, but that just means it’s almost time for the June Tres Jolie Kit Club reveal! YAY! New supplies!
For my fourth and final May 2023 project, I used the Cards, Tags, & More Kit to make a rather quick and easy pocket to hold my tags. Make sure to check out the process video, then go grab up your kit and make yourself one or more of these pockets to have on hand for whatever you decide to do with them!
Pretty easy, right? A few simple folds and I have a triple-tag pocket!
All of my pockets were folded in half on the long side, and the only pocket that had the extra flaps was the largest “main” pocket.
After I had my pockets cut to size, I started layering them up. I started with the smallest pocket and glued it to the back (the half without the flaps!) of the largest, glued the middle pocket in, then folded the large pocket up and adhered the falls around the back.
To help make sure I had space, I added a second score line – 1/8” spacing – and then used extra tags as placeholders in the pockets so I could wrap my flaps around – instead of just creating a flat fold. My pockets are snug, and if I were to make another pocket that would hold more than three tags, I would have to add a little extra to the flaps of the outer pocket!
To help reinforce the tops of the inner pockets, I added a 1” wide strip of solid cardstock – folded in half and cut a hair shy of the width of the pocket – and slid it in place. This helps reinforce the edges and creates a smoother finish. I also added strips of patterned paper to the two outer edges of the pocket to reinforce those since tags would be sliding in and out.
Once the pocket base was complete, the decoration was quick and easy! I used three – maybe closer to 2-1/2 – sheets of the BoBunny paper to cover one side of my tags and both sides of my pocket.
When I cut the blue plaid paper, I added approximately 1” extra so I could have a little extra to fold over the top of the pocket and a little extra to fold around the bottom and onto the back. For the ledger print patterned paper, I made sure to have an extra 1/2” at the top to fold over the top of the pocket and tore the bottom edge at the length needed to cover the edge of the blue plaid print paper. Super easy! Especially since I didn’t have to worry about wrapping the sides because I had already done that!
On the pocket front I added a few of the “Transfer Me” decals from this month’s Mixed Media Kit, then using my hot glue gun I popped on the flower buds I had left from my layout last week, two of the wicker hearts, and three of the BoBunny butterfly stickers. Since I have the wings lifted a little on the butterflies, I just gave them a light coating of glue so the sticky backing would no longer be sticky!
And although I hadn’t planned on adding so many KaiserCraft pearls, when I saw how the half circles looked, I knew I needed them all! I added some Diamond Glaze where I was going to attach the pearls – partly for extra hold, partly to give me the ability to slide the pearls around and make sure they were where I wanted them instead of just sticking them on and hoping I didn’t have to try and peel them back up!
I laid the blue sections of the patterned paper I had left together, added the “Transfer Me” decals, then started the process of gluing the patterned paper to one side of the tags. It really was just as simple as that! For the backs of the tags, since I didn’t want to leave them the manila color, I added some of the chalk onto my work surface, watered it down, then just dabbed and dragged the backs of the tags through the puddle.
After the tags had dried fully, I picked some of the flower stickers from the BoBunny sticker sheet to add to the front, then decided my tags need some of the banner pieces – so I added three banner stickers!
The final addition to the tags was the pieces of Prima Trim over the tag holes. All I did is cut six of the trim pieces off and glued one to the front and one to the back using hot glue.
Now I have a triple-tag pocket that could be used as it is – maybe add a photo or two to the tags. The backs could have notes added. The tags could be used as a card and words of encouragement could be added to the tags, or the whole pocket could be used in a junk journal or book! Endless possibilities!

Hey, y’all! This week I have a mood board inspired layout for you using the 49 & Market “Everywhere” collection from the Scrapbooking Kit and the mediums and stencil pack from the Mixed Media Kit. I started my paper crafting journey close to 15 years ago – with paper, glue, and scissors – it didn’t take long for me to realize I “needed” a few more supplies! I started with solid papers – I was terrified of patterned paper! How do you not have elements clashing?!?! And, even though I used duplicate photo prints, I still couldn’t fathom cutting them! Suffice it to say, my initial layouts are, comparatively, bland.
What was my biggest game-changer? Learning about the existence of gesso – especially clear gesso. I have zero formal training in physical art, so for everything I do now, I had to learn from videos, experience, and luck! Lots and lots of “dumb luck” LOL! Y’all, I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how others were adding wet mediums to their layouts and getting them to move around instead of soaking in and becoming splotches. Then I learned about gesso. Clear gesso when you don’t want to cover everything, and white gesso to create a “clean” area for your feature photos. And, even though I haven’t needed to (yet!), black gesso could easily be used too!
That brings us to my layout! A remarkable evolution from my first layout which had two solid colored cardstocks and two 4”x6” photos. Make sure you check out my process video to see what I did to put it all together!
This project was also inspired by this month’s mood board – maps, travel, and adventure – even if the adventure is a walk and picking flowers. Plus the twist “Oh The Places You Will Go” has both a literal and figurative interpretation. There isn’t just the physical adventure or possibilities of adventure, but the great adventure of life!
After I finally managed to decide which sheet of patterned paper I wanted to use, I added a coat of clear gesso. While that gesso dried, I remembered I needed to coat the Tres Jolie Chipboard pieces – but I had already rinsed out my brush and was preparing to wind down for the day, so I gave them a spray of Workable Fixatif for convenience!
After the gesso had dried, I used the Seth Apter “Flakey” Texture Paste and the Tim Holtz Circle Fade Stencil from the Mixed Media Kit this month to start building my background with a few random areas of texture where I was planning on adding my photos and clusters.
After the texture paste had dried, I mixed together each of the three PearlEx Powders from the Mixed Media Kit with water in a small palette to use as watercolors to add on and around the stenciling – then I just dipped into my three watercolors, let them move around on the background naturally and added a few extra splatters of the “Duo Aqua Blue” and “Sky Blue.” I also added a light coating of Workable Fixatif after my colors had dried to hold those powders in place.
As I started playing around with the elements I had decided to use, I realized I needed a little extra separation between the background and the photos, so I added some extra, torn-edge, pieces of paper as part of my layering process. I have my photos backed with some adhesive foam to help stabilize them, and then I just started positioning everything where I wanted it, then came in and added hot glue underneath the pieces – because I didn’t want to “forget” what I had originally planned if I tried taking everything off then rebuilding with the glue!
For the Tres Jolie Chipboard, I used a mix of the “Worn Jeans” Chalk Ink found in this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit, the three PearlEx Powders from the Mixed Media Kit, and clear embossing ink (refill bottle) and Extra Thick Embossing Powder from my stash. I started with the chalk ink, sprinkled, brushed, and watered down the PearlEx Powders while the ink was still wet, then decided what I really needed was some embossing – and that’s when I used my refill embossing ink to “paint” my powders in place before adding the Extra Thick Embossing Powder. Then I did it a second time – minus the chalk ink – so I have two layers of color and embossing powder!
After everything was in place and the hot glue had cooled down, I came back with my palette of “watercolors” to extend the areas of color and to blend in the torn pieces of paper I had added with my clusters and photos.

Hey, y’all! March is drawing to a close, and soon it will be time to see the fabulous kits Tres Jolie Kit Club has put together for April! They will definitely have you blooming for spring!
For my final March project, I combined elements from all three kits and a few items from my stash to create this little hoop album. Check out my video to see how it came together – it really is rather simple.
Everything started with me looking at a 3-inch embroidery hoop I’ve had in my stash forever, and knowing I wanted to use the clock and flower chipboard piece from Stamperia in the Cards, Tags, & More Kit this month. I hadn’t originally intended to cut the clock out, it just worked out that it was a perfect size – sometimes serendipity steps in for these projects!
I didn’t want to leave the hoop its natural color, but I also didn’t want to have layers that could rub off, so I just used my hands and rubbed in the Lindy’s Moon Shadow Mist spray from the Mixed Media Kit. (And as soon as I figure out where I moved it to, I will add some cutting board wax to seal and protect the wood!)
I backed the flowers with the large Tres Jolie Chipboard piece from this month’s Scrapbooking Kit after adding some of the Lindy’s Magical Powder from this month’s Mixed Media Kit and some embossing powders from my stash. For the bottom of the base hoop, I used the solid circle from the Tres Jolie Chipboard frame, adding the same embossing powders and Lindy’s Magical Powder to it.
I turned the chipboard clock face into a shaker, adding tiny seed beads from my stash and using a length of paracord as the spacer between the acetate and chipboard. Then I slipped the larger (outer) ring from the embroidery hoop over it – face down so the top surface would be flat, and backed the shaker with a circle cut from the 49 & Market papers found in this month’s Scrapbooking Kit.
I used the packaging from the 49 & Market chipboard package to create the cover for the bottom – since it wasn’t very “pretty” with the cut-up pieces of the Tres Jolie frame showing!
I just rough traced the chipboard base, fussy cut the shape out, and to add some coverage to the random print that peeked through the Tres Jolie frame, I added a coat of gesso with some Moon Shadow Mist and gum arabic – then sprayed more Moon Shadow Mist until I got a fairly good cover!
With my base and lid together, it was just a simple matter of cutting out twelve circles to create six pages, running a length of ribbon through the two sides of each page, and stitching around the edges.
After my pages were all stitched to the ribbon, I glued the ribbon to the bottom and added a little phrase. If you don’t want to add a phrase, or you just want your ribbon to be tucked in, you could easily put your pages together before putting all of your base layers together and tucking the ribbon in along the way!
The last step was just adding some light decoration. The pages aren’t very big, so it doesn’t take a lot to add just a little more interest while still leaving space for photos!

Are you joining the Tres Jolie challenge this month? All of the kits this month work wonderfully with the “Spring Flowers” twist! As you can see, the flowers were definitely a factor in my project, but I also worked the two pink doilies from the kit (and mood board!) in as well!

I don’t know if it’s really a “cheat” or not, but it is quite a bit easier than cutting thick chipboard – I used two 4”x6” (approximately 101-102mm x 152mm) canvas panels for my front and back covers! Then all I had to do is grab up some scrap chipboard to create my 2-1/2” x 4” (approximately 63-64mm x 101-102mm) spine.
I honestly couldn’t decide if I wanted to use the rice paper from the Mixed Media Kit or one of the papers from the Scrapbooking Kit for my cover – so I decided on both! – especially since rice paper makes a wonderful top layer on a collage. I cut one of the 49 & Market sheets (almost) in half, so I had two 6” (or so) by 12” pieces, lined up two of the ends – creating a 6” (or so!) by 24” strip to use as my album cover. To “cut” my rice paper, I used a water brush to outline the section I wanted to use, then just gently tore the paper apart. One of the best things about rice paper is that getting it wet is – in my opinion – the best way to cut it because it’s easier and creates a feathered edge. Of course, the other “best thing” about rice paper is that the white areas of a print become practically invisible as soon as you add your collage medium – which for this project was some Soft Matte Gel from Prima-Finnabair.
After the gel dried, I added my canvas panels and chipboard spine to the cover paper, lining the center of the spine to the seam between the two strips of patterned paper, and to make sure my cover would fold like it is supposed to, I used a 1/4” (a little over 6mm) fiberglass rod (it’s what I have, a wooden dowel rod would work just as well!) to create the necessary space between the spine edges and the canvas panels. After the glue had dried, I gave the cover a coating of matte varnish to help seal the rice paper and 49 & Market paper, let that dry, then trimmed the excess away, leaving about one inch to fold over the edges. I trimmed the corners – more than I normally would since I was going to add some pink doily corners – and a little at the top and bottom of the folds to keep the bulk out, added double-sided tape and glue, then folded everything up!
I gave the doily I was going to use for my corners a coating of matte varnish to help protect and strengthen it, cut the doily into four pieces, and wrapped all four corners of my cover with those pieces – just using more varnish as my glue.
Once everything on my cover had dried, it was finally time to get to work on the inside and add my closure. I used a couple of strips of linen hinging tape on the inside folds for more stability, coated my second doily with the matte varnish and cut it in half, and cut my end papers down to size – 3-3/4” x 5-3/4” (about 95mm x 146mm).
I added the two halves of the doily I had just cut to the edges of the endpapers that would be closest to the spine and glued the finished pieces into place after I added my closure hardware (see below). Although I didn’t add the ephemera until closer to the end of the project since I am talking about the cover already, I thought I would just try to keep things a little more “together” here on the blog and show the finished insides – plus it allows you to see how the inside doily pieces look in place!
I added a few pieces of the 49 & Market ephemera – a spot to mark the date on the front, and a little spot for journaling on the back.
After I had my end paper in place, it was time to add the spine cover/page holder. I cut a strip of paper 6-1/2” x 3-3/4” (165mm x 95mm) and added a score line every 1/2” (12-13mm) so I could create four tabs sticking up to hold my sleeve pages in place. For all of the folds that would be against the spine, I added linen hinging tape to help strengthen all of the hinges, then I glued all of my tabs together so I would have the finished piece ready and be able to trim off any excess from the left and right edges – which ended up being about 1/16” (1.5mm) from each edge – before gluing it in place.
For my closure, I used a D-ring and a short slotted head screw, leaving the smooth side of the slotted head screw showing on the outside of the covers, but covering everything on the inside!
To keep the D-ring from twisting under the paper with use, I added some 3D Matte Gel to the surface that would be again the canvas panel cover, some Loctite to the screw threads, and more Soft Matte Gel over the inside screw head and edges before finally getting the end papers in place.
I carefully used my bone folder to shape the paper around the screw and to make sure everything was smooth and wrinkle-free!
Finally, with my cover together, I was able to set it off to let it dry completely and get to work creating my pages. I decided to create sleeve pages to allow for more areas for photos, ephemera, or journaling since this is a mini, 4-page album. So first, the easy part – the inserts! I just cut four 5-1/4” x 3-11/16” (133mm x 93-94mm) rectangles. Why that size? So when they were in the pockets – which would have those tabs holding them in place – they would still have a little peeking out of the sleeves which were also cut 5-1/4” (133mm) wide and I shaved off the extra from the edges to make sure they would slide freely.
With my inserts cut, I just set them off to the side and got to work creating the sleeves. I cut four 8” x 5-1/4” (203mm x 133mm) pieces – trying to mentally keep in mind where my folds would be and which side of the pages would have the image right-side up and which side would be up-side-down! (Although, to be honest, it isn’t really that big of a deal – just more for personal preference!)
To help make sure my pockets wouldn’t be too tight – allowing photos or other flat ephemera to be added to the inserts – I gave my sleeves rounded edges with an approximately 1/16” (1.5mm) “gap.” Along the long edge of the paper I was using for the sleeve, I scored at 3-7/8” (98mm), lined that score up on one of the “bumps” of the scoreboard, and added a second score to the right of it. My scoreboard has 1/8” spacing – so moving over to a bump, gave me the 1/16” (or so) spacing I was looking for! Plus, I did add some light markings on my paper before starting the scoring process to help!
After the first edge fold was scored, I moved the paper back to the corner of the scoreboard, added a score line at 7-3/4” (197mm), moved the paper over half a tick again, and added another score to the right.
I have a thin metal ruler with smooth edges that helped me shape the edges – since making two folds that are so close together isn’t the easiest thing to do! I just wrapped the folds around the edge of the ruler, used my bone folder to help shape them, and kept the ruler in place until I had everything glued down so I wouldn’t crush the edges while burnishing to get a good seal!
And, with that, the hardest parts were done! All that was left to do is start adding photo mats and ephemera to my sleeves before sliding them onto the tabs in the spine!
I did turn some of my photo mats into 3” (76mm) circles – depending on what I wanted to show on the background – but most of the photo mats are 3-1/2” (89mm) squares.
I added a bit of decoration to the tops of my inserts, strengthening the edges and making them a little easier to hold on to.
After I had added the sleeves to the spine, I did go back through and added the dimensional flowers from the flower vine found in the kit. I took a pair of wire cutters to the vine, chopped it up, and just popped the pieces in place. I waited until the album was fully together to make sure I didn’t add too much bulk between the pages!
When the time came for me to add my sleeves, I wanted to make sure they weren’t going to be flat against the spine, which would keep them from flipping smoothly, so I cut a couple of strips of chipboard and used them as spacers on each side of the tab when adding the pages.
With the pages in place and the ribbon knotted to the D-rings, my album was done!

Hey, y’all! I just love the papers in this month’s Scrapbooking Kit from Tres Jolie Kit Club! The mix of white with a touch of light grey is perfect for building or expanding on.
Now I know, if you’ve seen the mood board you may be wondering how I came to a pink and grey mixed media panel from a mood board filled with autumn colors and décor with a “Vintage Fall” twist (Shabby is a form of “vintage,” right? I’m not the only one that thinks that, am I?). Well, I’ll tell you – it all started with the sweater pillow – and I do have some leaves on here!
I will admit, I love the mix of white and grey – I adore Farm Chic décor – but I don’t usually lean towards pinks. In fact, there are probably people who know me that are very confused right now seeing this pink! However, contrary to popular belief, I don’t hate pink, I just won’t wear it (unless it’s socks!) or decorate with it. (Fun fact: I will put pink in “strange” areas – my phone cases, Kindle cover, wallet, etc.)

This month’s mood board is filled with beautiful autumn colors and fabulous textures to inspire your project! Mood boards aren’t really meant to be “copied” – they are, as the name suggests, designed to invoke a mood in you. How do they make you feel? What parts catch your eye?
As I mentioned, I saw that cable knit pillow and then just ran with it! I just thought something like that would be a fabulous background. Truthfully, I didn’t even notice that the mood board had some pink flowers on it until after I had finished my panel!

For my panel, the first thing I did was get the paper I had picked out collaged down to the canvas using some Liquitex Matte Medium – although any collage medium would work such as Mod Podge, Distress Collage, etc. I didn’t trim my paper until after I had it glued down and it had a chance to dry. It is a little less stressful if I am not worrying about every edge being perfectly lined up!
After the matte medium dried and I cut down the edges, I started the stenciling process. I used my “Victorian Tiles” stencil first, with a mix of regular (Ranger Opaque Matte) texture paste, then came back through and added some areas of Distress Crackle Paste. I also grabbed up a leaf stencil and added it to a few areas between and on top of the previous stenciling. Then, and this might be the most important part for me, I let it all dry overnight! It is possible to use a heat gun on texture paste, even crackle paste, but allowing anything “crackle” to dry naturally has always given me the best results. Drying too quickly just doesn’t allow the crackle to crack as much. Then, the next morning, I came in with the leaf stencil again, lined it up on the previous stenciling, and added some extra crackle paste and some “Kitsch Flamingo” Embossing Glaze – then set the panel off to dry and crackle before coming in and melting the glaze.
To finish off preparing the base, I added the two skinnier ScrapBerry column pieces and little “bricks” along the top – cutting one of the columns in half (I used a pair of wire cutters, and with a little squeeze it snapped right apart!). I didn’t want my canvas perfectly symmetrical, so I used one of the halves and one of the bricks on the left, the other half, the whole piece, and the second brick on the right. Then, after the glue had set, I coated the entire background in clear gesso and set it off to dry while I started work on the flowers.
For my flowers, I started by gathering up some white roses and leaves from my stash and dismantling the pink flowers from the kit – separating the green parts from the pink. Then the prep work began!
I started by coating all my white flowers and leaves, along with the two long leafy pieces from the 49 & Market flower pack, with some white gesso. Then I grabbed up a sheet of the paper from the kit to cut out some extra leaves from one section, and I fussy cut a few of the larger pink flowers from the other side of the sheet (it is the second, matching sheet from the pack that I used for the background).
Now things were really about to get messy!
I coated all of the die-cut leaves in Distress Translucent Grit Paste – working carefully with the now wet paper – to crumple, uncrumple, and shape the leaves while placing them on my background where I planned on building up all the flower clusters. I also took this opportunity to add the Translucent paste to the fussy-cut flowers so I could shape them, add a layer of protection, and get them in place.
For all of my green pieces from the flower packs and the white roses and leaves from my stash, I made a mixture of white gesso and opaque matte texture paste to coat them in, placing the long leaf pieces from the 49 & Market pack on my background and setting the rest off to dry.
My next step was to get some extra color on all of my flowers and foliage!
For the fussy-cut flowers on the background, I used a combination of Tattered Rose Distress Oxide and my Kitsch Flamingo and Cocktail Party Distress Crayons – just using a water brush to add a bit of color and definition to the fussy-cut pieces.
Then, to add a bit more depth to the pink flowers from the kit, I made a “puddle” of the Kitsch Flamingo and Cocktail Party Distress Crayons mixed together and brushed them onto the inner edges of the petals. To get the color to feather out a bit, I just gave the flowers a light spray of water and let them air dry.
For the six smaller 49 & Market flowers that I pulled off their stems, I put them in a little palette and let them soak in some Cocktail Party Distress Mica Spray.
To get all of my other pieces various shades of gray, I started coating them in a mix of Grave and Crypt Distress Grit Pastes with some Pumice Stone Distress Oxide Spray thrown in!
After they were all coated with that mixture, I decided they needed more gray – the Pumice Stone has a tan-ish tone – so I sprayed them with a combination of Hickory Smoke and Weathered Wood Spray Stains and Oxides.
Even though a lot of my water-reactive mediums are mixed with texture pastes, the colors on the flowers were not! So I took this opportunity to give everything a coat of Workable Fixatif so I could continue working without worrying about my colors moving.
Now I had to add some color to the 49 & Market leaves I had already attached to the canvas. For those, all I did is make a mix of Hickory Smoke and Weathered Wood Distress Crayons on my mat watered them down and used my water brush to brush the colors on.
After a spray of Workable Fixatif on the canvas, I started the process of getting all of my flowers and foliage in place using some 3D Matte Gel.
While the 3D Matte Gel started drying, I worked on all of my mould pieces. After coating everything in white gesso and letting that dry, I started adding all of the other mediums.
For my large, pink keyhole frame, I started with a base of Tattered Rose Distress Paint, Translucent Grit Paste, and Finnabair Texture Powder for a little extra texture to make up for the watering down of the paste. While that mix dried, I started work on all of my gray pieces, using a mix of Grave and Crypt Distress Grit Pastes, and Finnabair’s Cool Gray Rust Effect Paste. After all those pastes were dry, I coated them in a light layer of Hickory Smoke Distress Paint, gave them a light mist of water, and dabbed off areas of the paint to allow areas of the texture pastes to show through and add some variation of color.
While the paint was drying on the gray pieces, I went back to the pink piece and gave it a light, inconsistent coating of Kitsch Flamingo Distress Paint, some spots of Cocktail Party Distress Mica Spray, and some water. After all of that was dry, I came back with Kitsch Flamingo and Cocktail Party Distress Crayons, adding them directly to the mould piece, and watered them down so the colors could flow where they wanted as they air dried.
To finish up all of the gray mould pieces, I added some Hickory Smoke Distress Spray Stain, mixed it up with some Graphite Texture Paste, spread it around some, then sprayed them all with both Hickory Smoke and Weathered Wood Distress Oxide Sprays before that paste has a chance to dry.
Now it was finally time to get everything on the panel and finish it up!
After all of my mould pieces were in place, I added some areas of DecoArt White Crackle Paint, tucked in some pink sisal, added more crackle paint, got my Ingvild Bolme birds in place, and added a little crackle paint to them.
After the 3D Matte Gel had a chance to set up overnight, I mixed some Payne’s Gray watercolor paint with some water and Liquid Color Fluid Medium and used a pipette to get that mix under all of the flowers and mould pieces. For any areas I wanted to make a little grayer, I mixed the Payne’s Gray with some of the fluid medium and brushed it on, watering it down some if I needed to.
For all of the “shadow” making, it was just a process of adding the mediums, adding water if I needed to, and tilting and turning the panel until I had the colors where I wanted them – drying a little at a time to start getting the color set as I went.
For the cabochon [mould] pieces, I used a mix of white gesso and Tattered Rose Distress Paint as my base coat then added some Kitsch Flamingo Distress Paint before adding them to the canvas. Once on the canvas, I added a thin layer of crackle paint to them, blending it onto the canvas around them.
On top of all the crackle paint I added, I started to give some extra color and definition to all of my pieces using Distress Crayons – Kitsch Flamingo and Cocktail Party on the pink areas, and Hickory Smoke and Weathered Wood on the gray pieces and birds.
To add a little extra sparkle to the flowers, I brushed on some Finnabair Pixie Effect Paste – it has the pink flakes in it to go with the canvas, but it also has some light teal-ish flakes for a bit of contrast.
After everything was dry, it gave me a chance to stand back and take a look to see if there were any areas I wanted to add a bit more Payne’s Gray to.
The last step was to add the final touches with some Finnabair Waxes, and I was finally done!

For my fourth and final April, Tres Jolie Kit Club project I made a Mini Junk Journal using the Cards and Mixed Media Kits. I love mixing vintage and bright; “old” and “new;” and the muted tones of the 49 & Market Cards, Envelopes, and Tags in this month’s Cards, Tags, & More Kit were the perfect complement to the bright tones of the Dina Wakley Glossy Sprays in the Mixed Media Kit. My closure is a few layers of fabric and tulle with four large buttons added on and a section of a headband (unused!) sewn onto one end. I also added some simple hand stitches for a little extra interest.

I used some lightweight chipboard I found in my stash, the floral print from the packaging of the 49 & Market Card Kit, and some teal burlap-ish trim from my stash to create the cover of the journal. I then decorated it with the Tres Jolie Chipboard from the kit and some of the Dina Wakely Glossy Sprays.
These aren’t all of the pages in the journal – only about half – as examples of techniques I used in creating this project!
I created a few clusters made from bits of fabric and tulle, a tag from the 49 & Market Tag Pack, and a couple of fabric flowers. I used black thread in my sewing machine to stitch the layers together, then added some hand-stitched X’s and hand-stitched the button on. I then glued the clusters along one edge to use as tuck spots. I added a blanket stitch (sewing machine) along the majority of the pages to reinforce the edges and make sure the gel print papers and cardstock backing stayed together! (Even if I did use a lot of glue – I don’t like things coming apart!)
I didn’t close up the three sides of the envelope to make it, well, an envelope; instead, I left it so it could be all the way unfolded. Throughout the journal, I added in some wax seals – some on pages, some on paperclips.
Not every surface has gel printing on it! I did leave a few sides bare, plus the back of all of the tags – but most of the surfaces have glossy sprays on them, so to write in this journal I think a fine tip marker would work best.
On the tags, I used white thread, and instead of punching holes and adding the tag pulls, I crossed two staples from my Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher.
Lots of different patterns in this junk journal, but the bright Glossy Sprays work with their muted counterparts on the 49 & Market cards and envelopes – and to really tie it all together, I stuck to just using black and white thread.
From the front cover to the back cover there is a variety of patterns and colors. The fabric flowers worked fabulously during the gel plate printing process and made their way onto the finished product.
The spine of the journal has some scrap fabric, tulle, fabric flowers, and buttons from my stash on it. Like the other flowers throughout the journal, these flowers also have some Glossy Spray added to them.
